Insuring Your Investment

Everyone needs car insurance.

Compulsory third party people... because fixing a person can be very expensive. Third party property... because running into a BMW isn't as bad as a person but who's got a spare 100k lying around? And then there's comprehensive: insuring against damage, theft, acts of God... you name it.

Now I never considered a car to be an investment. An expense. A necessary evil perhaps. But not something that actually increases in value.

But apparently I was wrong. And have learnt this step by step whilst going on the Pimp My Mighty Boy journey.

And not just from what we've been doing, but my exposure to the experts and enthusiasts that work in the automotive industry.

And none more so than contacting and learning more about Shannons Motoring Insurance.

A brief history of Shannons

Shannons was the brainchild of the late Robert Shannon who created an insurance business in the early seventies run by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. Its insurance product is specially tailored to individual needs and relies on direct contact with clients rather than through other agents or brokers.

Today Shannons has offices in all state capitals, the ACT and Northern Territory. Across Australia Shannons is the first choice of motoring enthusiasts when it comes to insuring their special cars, motorcycles and homes, as well as the day to day cars of owners.

Since 1981 Shannons Auctions have conducted Australia's biggest collectable vehicle auctions including the prestigious Australian International Motor Show Auction in Sydney and The Melbourne International Motor Show.

Shannons has grown with the support from the Australian Car Club movement and is intimately involved in supporting clubs and motoring enthusiasts through promotions and event sponsorships of swap meets, rallies and concours each year.

My local Shannons rep...

Here's Mick from Shannons.

We contacted Shannons for an insurance quote. Because of the amount of work that was being done and the ever increasing worth we were starting to get a bit concerned if something happened to it.

Calling one of the usual insurance companies was not an option. And the first people we called was Shannons.

Now I will admit I knew NOTHING about Shannons. Not having seen their ads or ever having owned a car that would be considered a classic or worthy of Shannons attention.

But Jo did. She's clever like that.

So she rang and we weren't out to try to secure a sponsorship. It just landed in our lap.

Jo had to explain exactly why it was worth as much as she said it was. Which piqued their interest.

The operator put her on hold and spoke to the Newcastle Shannons rep, Mick. And she then she told us Mick would give us a personal call.

The short story is Shannons saw an excellent opportunity for promotion. Which is always good to hear, especially as it was always our intention.

But it's good to get that sort of feedback from someone that hasn't been specifically targeted and propositioned.
