The Banff National Park of Canada was one of the first national parks in the world. It is located in Alberta and covers over 2,500 square miles.

The poster shows Moraine Lake against a mountain backdrop, in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. This chain of 10 mountain peaks, all above 10,000 feet (3,000 metres), is one of the world's loveliest mountain views.

This beautiful mountain poster shows Mount Combatant, which is found in the Coast Range of British Columbia. This range marks the border between British Columbia and Alaska, and so separates Canada and the northernmost state of the USA.

Mount Combatant, at over 12,000 feet, is one of the highest peaks in an area of the Coast Range known as the Mount Waddington Range. This is challenging territory for mountain climbers, but the magnificent vista is surely reward for their efforts.

Grand Teton needs no introduction for many. This is another peak which shares its name with the National Park in which it is situated.

Grand Teton is 13770 feet high, but despite its fame, it is only the second tallest mountain in Wyoming. It is nonetheless beautiful and loved by many, including of course mountain climbers.

The Cordillera Blanca Range is found in Peru and is part of the Andes of South America.

The summit pictured is just one of the peaks of this range, of which many are taller than 18,000 feet (5,500 metres) and the highest is an impressive 22,200 feet (6,768 metres).

Quitaraju's summit is only a little under 20,000 feet (just over 6,000 metres). The mountain climber here must be feeling like they are on top of the world!

These jagged mountain peaks are found in Patagonia in South America, where they are known as the Egger Peaks.

Toni Egger was the Austrian Ice Climber who allegedly made the first ascent of Cerro Torre alongside Italian climber Cesare Maestri (although their claim has been hotly debated). Egger did not make it back, although Maestri survived.

There are four peaks in this range, with Cerro Torre the highest at 10,280 feet (3,128 metres). Weather conditions and ice on the peak make it a true challenge for mountaineers.

This train is travelling the Jungfrau railway which takes visitors up the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station! I have visited it myself, and love this part of the Alps.

I currently call Scotland 'home' but it only takes a drive into the Highlands to remind me how beautiful the Scottish landscape can be.

The scenery is stunning in this part of the world, where lochs are found beside time-worn peaks, usually under a brooding sky. In fact, the Highlands are so ancient and weathered that they appear gently rounded rather than jagged like newer mountain ranges.

The highest mountain in Scotland is Ben Nevis. Several mountain areas in Scotland are suitable for winter sports, and the Scottish mountains also offer refuge to some rare wildlife.

Like the lochs of Scotland, the fjords of Norway are world-famous. However, they would not exist without the mountain peaks and valleys of the Norwegian landscape.

This makes Norway a wonderful destination for climbers, hikers and all winter sport enthusiasts.

Ama Dablam Mountain is located in Nepal, in the might Himalaya range. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and is on the must-climb list of many mountaineers. At 22,501 feet (6858 metres) high, it is a true giant. Those who reach the summit are rewarded with spectacular views of Everest.

Of course, for many of us, a beautiful poster such as this one showing Ama Dablam veiled by cloud will be as close as we get!

No collection of mountain images could be complete without the mighty Everest or Chomolungma. Who has not heard of this most famous of mountains, the highest in the world?

Everest and the rest of the Himalaya peaks grow by a few centimetres each year as the tectonic plates of our planet shift. Mount Everest itself is an incredible 29,028 feet high (8,848 metres). The first successful ascent was made in 1953. In 2005, a couple were married on the summit. The youngest climber to date to reach the summit was 15 years old.

The extraordinary Austrian Stefan Gatt made the ascent without oxygen and was the first climber to snowboard down from Everest's summit.

Personally, I would be content with a glorious poster of Mount Everest such as this one... and with day dreams.

This classic peak is sometimes spelled Lingtrin but more usually as Lingtren. It is a little over a gigantic 22,000 feet high.

It is found to the west of Everest, and the only ascent claimed is an illegal (and therefore unofficial one) made by Dutchman Bart Vos.

Mount Fuji in Japan looks as if it were painted by the brush of a skilled artist. And indeed it has been painted many times over the Japanese artists and visitors alike.

The mountain is a volcano, 12,388 feet high (3776 metres). Each summer hundreds of hikers climb to the summit.

The diverse landscapes of New Zealand formed the backdrop for Middle Earth in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. This country really does have it all, including the impressive Southern Alps mountain range.
