Fall in the Mountains
is spectacular. The climate is perfect and the beauty of the mountains comes to life.
Fall is nature's last effort to entice everyone outside before winter arrives; so the mountains put on a gorgeous show in an effort to gain the attention of everyone.
A Mountain Vacation
The mountains offer a spectacular display of the fall foliage and a restful getaway. This time of year the leaves turn to beautiful reds, yellows, and oranges, a painter's dream. In the mountains the slopes are covered in the colors of fall and the ground is covered with the falling leaves. The weather is cool and you feel like hiking and horseback riding just to enjoy all the beauty.
Fall is the last time for several weeks or months that you can get out and enjoy the outdoors. Breathe in the mountain air and recharge yourself.
If for some reason you don't feel like making the vacation a complete retreat then you may want to take in some fun activities. In the fall the Smoky Mountains offer tons of exiting activities.
Pigeon Forge Harvest Festival where you can celebrate fall.
Dollywood Harvest Celebration where there is live entertainment and arts and crafts.
Halloween Egg Hunt fun for the kids and all ages.

Great Hiking Trails
One of the best activities for fall is hiking. In the Smoky Mountains fall hiking is fantastic, there are so many trails it is unbelievable. Hiking is a great exercise and it helps you to reconnect with nature. A long hike is not necessary, a short walk through the woods can replenish the soul.I will try to narrow down your search and recommend a few day long hikes.

- I love the Smokies, though I've only been through there in the early Spring, while hiking the Appalachian Trail. I've been in lots of other mountains in the Fall, though, like New Hampshire's White Mountains, the mountains of southern Maine (ie. Katahdin), and the San Francisco Peaks here in Flagstaff. There's nothing like the crisp, cool mountain air and changing colors of the season. In fact, I'll be hiking in the mountains here tomorrow, where the aspen are past their peak color but still a beautiful yellow against the dark green of the pines.

- I love the fall. Growing up in Minnesota I start looking for it in September but alas, here in SC we won't see signs of it for another couple of months.
I love the pictures
