More Dads Having Babies Over the Age of 40
According to Medic8.com, "There is a 40 percent increase of men fathering after the age of 35 and 40.
Since moms are the ones who have to carry the babies, go through labor, and have the babies, is this why more attention has been given to them? Or is the social stigma worse for women over 40 having babies as opposed to men over 40 becoming dads? I will explore this question here, plus share some "Celebrity Dads Over 40" stories and quotes.

"This book helped us find so many answers to our questions concerning having children together and about our relationship. We don't feel like we are the only ones feeling the way we do now! Some of the basic questions that it helped us through was how the child might feel having an older parent? How society might treat us? Death and divorce...all major topics in a relationship that are hard to talk about to anyone."

- Higher counts of miscarriage
- Lower Apgar scores
- Increased genetic disorders, such as Down Syndrome
- Increased Autism, Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar

Social Stigma for Over 40 Parents
Let Your Voice Be Heard
Vote for moms or dads and let me know why!
Do you think the social stigma is worse for moms or dads over 40?

Moms
poddys says:
I don't think there is too much of a stigma, but if there is it probably affects the mother more. I can see a mother going to pick up her baby from day care and it being assumed she is the grandmother, which could be embarrassing.
RenaissanceWoman2010 says:
For men, having a baby at any age is considered studly. The older, the better. There is a different age standard for women.
ohcaroline says:
Moms definitely.
hayleylou says:
It's worse for Moms
tssfacts says:
I have to agree moms have the worse social stigma.
rlivermore says:
I think there is a stigma related to age for women in general, so definitely in this area as well.
sandyspider says:
I agree with LIssa. It is always a big deal with women.
LissaKlar says:
I think women are criticized more for their lifestyle choices than men are. For instance, you don't see the media making a huge deal over the older dads on this page. But when Kelly Preston had a baby at 47 it practically made headlines.
Dads
darciefrench says:
It seems fatherhood is ok for men of all ages- even in cases of a much older woman- the stigma falls on her.

- If you are good parent material, I don't think it matters what age you are when you become a Dad. However, it's important to consider that if you have a child at 50, you will be 70+ when they get married. That's a depressing prospect, and it also means you won't be able to play with them like a younger Dad either. I had my youngest daughter when I was 49, she is now 7, but I still worry about how she will feel when I get old and she is still young and how her friends who have younger parents will react.
