DVD Gifts -- Who Doesn't Love a Good Romantic Comedy?
Movie gifts never go out of style. What's better than giving a movie you love to someone you love? Well, that would be watching it with them. That's what!
Romantic comedies, also known as Rom Coms, always center around a couple who is kept apart till the end of the movie. That's the appeal. If the couple fell into each others arms in the first half hour, well, would we want to watch that?
These romantic comedy movies are recommended by me (and several million others who have watched them and loved them).

Romantic Comedies
~*~Movies About Food~*~
Some of the best romantic comedies center around food.
Waitress
A Serious(ly) Funny Movie
"Waitress" is a different kind of romantic comedy that is pure fun and full of quirkiness. The story line is serious (there's an abusive husband) and stars Jenna (Keri Russell) as an unwilling pregnant waitress, stuck in a crappy marriage, who falls for her doctor (Nathan Fillion). Oh, and she makes great pies.

The food: Pies, so many pies, but especially the Bad Baby Pie and Earl Murders Me Because I'm Having an Affair Pie, "You smash blackberries and raspberries into a chocolate crust."

Pie #1: Blue Plate Special I DON'T WANT EARL'S BABY PIE or BAD BABY PIE - Quiche with egg and brie cheese with a smoked ham center (later referred to as BAD BABY QUICHE PIE by old Joe)
Pie #2: KICK IN THE PANTS PIE - Cinnamon spice custard (Today's Special)
Pie #3: I HATE MY HUSBAND PIE - "You make it with bittersweet chocolate and don't sweeten it. You make it into a pudding and drown it in caramel" - Recipes for Pies from the Movie Waitress
- Pie Recipes from the Movie Waitress (Has anyone tried these yet?):Well, I finally got a chance to see the movie Waitress. I did enjoy the movie, it was different and the ending was not as expected, which I like when that happens. BUT, for those who saw it, didn't you just think the pies made in the movie looked WONDERFUL? Well, I did.

Stranger Than Fiction
Will Ferrell Gets Serious But He's Still Very Funny
"Stranger Than Fiction" is an off-beat gem starring Will Ferrelll, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, and Queen Latifah. The food element: Ana (Maggie Gyllenhaal) is a baker who gets audited by Harold Crick (Will Ferrell). And at one point he even gives her flours (see the YouTube video below).

No Reservations
A Romantic Comedy starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhard
"No Reservations" stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhardt and Abigail Breslin. Kate (CZJ) and Nick (Aaron Eckhardt) are thrown together in a work environment that is steamy for lots of reasons.

New in Town
Starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr.
New in Town is a romantic comedy that uses the typical I-can't-stand-you attitude from the view of both the guy and the girl. Of course they come around and there's tapioca throughout.

Four Weddings and a Funeral
A Classic Rom Com
The premise of Four Weddings and a Funeral is unique and fun to watch. Especially memorable is Hugh Grant's character being pursued by Duck Face throughout the movie.

Love Actually
My Favorite Romantic Comedy of All!
Love Actually is probably my favorite movie period. The ensemble cast includes Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Kiera Knightly, Bill Nighy, and so many more. It's just fabulous.

Notting Hill
Another British Romantic Comedy
Notting Hill stars Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, along with some "normal" looking British actors, which is such a refreshing change from everyone having to look like, well, a movie star! This is a fun movie that lets Hugh Grant show what he can do without being silly or mean.

Romantic Comedy -- Crazy, Stupid Love
With Steve Carrell and Julianne Moore, this is a clear winner. I recently saw this movie and yes, as the title says, love is crazy and stupid at times, especially when you throw Steve Carrell into the dating world after years of marriage.

Something Borrowed
Another new romantic comedy
Something Borrowed is a new romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski, and Colin Egglesfield. One girl is in love with another girl's fiance. I just watched Something Borrowed and have to say that this was a refreshing movie. Not all sunshine and roses. Very well done.

No Strings Attached
I recently watched this movie and just loved it! It was much more true to life, I think than so many of the sappy romantic comedies I've seen. The language is a bit R rated (well, a lot, but I liked that) and the characters seemed like genuine people (I mean seeing Ashton Kutcher's character wearing his college sweatshirt to a funeral... that could happen!).
Bridesmaids
Okay, I thought this was going to be STUPID, and it was, and hilarious! This is a clever romantic comedy that features some crack-me-up actresses and a few funny dudes centered around female friendship, back stabbing, and car trouble.
