Most movers, like myself, that promote their moving businesses on Craigslist are reputable and reliable movers, but there is that small fraction, no matter how legitimate they are, that are moving scams.

The number of so-called movers that promote their services on Craigslist and other on-line classified ad sites is phenomenal. Don't get me wrong...there are many legit moving companies that advertise on Craigslist, etc. (I know - I am one of them.)

At first glance you would not notice these moving scams, but when you actually start reading their ads you will notice something that will intrigue you. The will promote their services claiming that they can move you for $40/hr (or less), and this includes the "truck" and 2 men, etc.

Professional moving companies will laugh their butts off when they read these ads because they know that NO professional moving company can operate with these fees. The trucks, payroll, insurance, fuel, etc will eat that up in no time. Factually, it takes about $50-$60/hr just to break even. That is without profit of any kind.

So when you see a "moving company" promote that they can move you for $40/hr and provide truck and men you will immediately know two things: 1) they are not a professional moving company, and 2) They are rogue movers and are operating illegally.

If you use these $40/hr "movers" your chances of getting scammed are greater. While you may actually get good service from these type of operators they are less than reputable. And if something were to go wrong you would be screwed, because I guarantee that they are not insured and therefore not licensed.

If you do hire these "movers" then do not expect a high degree of professionalism or hygiene. What you can expect is "two pot-heads and a rusted pick-up." And when something goes wrong...and it will...don't blame them, blame yourself. You have been warned and you now know better.

8. Moving companies send employees who are rude and improperly dressed.
9. Moving companies say they will send a large truck, but show up with a small moving trailer and MAKE MULTIPLE TRIPS to increase your bill.
10. Moving companies give you an estimate, but the job ends up costing much more
