The Watchman
By: Robert Crais
The Watchman by Robert CraisThe latest Joe Pike novel from Robert Crais offers "edge-of-your-seat" action, a twisting plot, and likeable yet flawed characters. It's an enjoyable read.
The Watchman is the 11th book to feature former LAPD cop, ex-marine, and gun-for-hire Joe Pike. The action centers around a Paris Hilton-type Los Angeles socialite, Larkin Barkley, the daughter of a mega-wealthy real estate developer, who finds herself mixed up in a terrifying situation after she crashes her car into the wrong people late one night. It seems the passenger in the car that fled the scene is a wanted drug smuggler.
Joe Pike for Hire
Favorite Crais hero, Joe Pike is called in to protect Larkin after three attempts have been made on her life in as many days. No sooner do they get to the next safe house than a fourth attempt is made. Going underground, Pike tries to protect Larkin and figure out who's leaking their whereabouts. He uses his network of loyal associates, including regular Crais character Elvis Cole, to learn the identity of the assassins. Unfortunately, he learns more than he should.
A Twisted Mix of Suspects
The quick-paced action leads Pike, Larkin, and Cole back to the scene of the accident and all over L.A. as they get closer and closer to the killer. Will the answer to the puzzle save Larkin or will it be too close to home?
Although part of a series of books that feature Joe Pike and Elvis Cole, Crais does a good job of making this novel stand alone for first-time readers while giving loyal fans new information about the characters--not an easy feat. His crisp, fast-faced style has the readability of a James Patterson novel, but with a much more layered plot and many more nuances. If you haven't read Robert Crais, you're in for a treat.

The Sleeping Murder
Agatha Christie Full Cast Dramatisation
Mr-Audiobook ReviewJune Whitfield plays Miss Marple once again in this Full cast dramatisation of Agatha Christies 'Sleeping murder'.
Miss Marple is called upon to solve a 'perfect crime' committed years earlier. A Cold case as they say.
Publisher's Summary:
Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernise the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs.
In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Between them, they have to solve a "perfect" crime committed many years before.
Having read this book many years ago and then listened to the audiobook I was pleasantly surprised. June whitfield takes on the role of Miss Marple extremely well.Usually when reading a book I put my own slant on the characters I am reading.
Listening to June Whitfield I found myself transported back to the time when I read the book,
her portrayal was everything I expected and remembered about the character.
All in all an exellent audiobook and if you are a fan of Murder Mystery & suspense then this is the one for you.

Telling Tales:Alan Bennet
This audiobook is made up of ten childhood reminiscences from Alan BennettTitled:
A Strip of Blue, Proper Names ,
Our War, Eating Out ,
An Ideal Home, Aunt Eveline ,
A Shy Butcher, Unsaid Prayers ,
Days Out, No Mean City.
These Tales are made special by their ordinariness, Told in the inimitable style that has become Alan Bennetts trademark, dry wit, observation and a knack for understatement.
Recounting his early years in Leeds Alan bennet entertains with a near magical humour, recalling family crises ,day trips and family gatherings.
Born 9 May 1934 in Armley, Leeds, the son of a butcher and a mother who dreamed of life 'down south, Alan grew up in the midst of gossiping Yorkshire women, making an indelible impression on him, regular holidays to coastal resorts like Morecambe. This audiobook transports us to that life and all it's beauty, the beauty of being
ordinary among ordinary folk in an ordinary yorkshire. The humour is dry and understated, simple everyday humour which serves to remind all of us of moments in our own early years when life seemed a lot simpler.Telling Tales
