A Google owned WWW?

In all, Google has purchased or agreed to purchase 11 (or more) companies or technologies in the past year. Google usually doesn't release financial terms of small deals, but the big ones are substantial: $1.65 billion for YouTube and $3.1 billion for DoubleClick (the latter deal is pending a federal investigation). A little bit more than a year ago, Google spent $1 billion for a 5% stake in AOL.

A list of the past year or so:
DoubleClick
Panoramio
GreenBorder Technologies
Tonic Systems
Marratech
Adscape Media
Trendalizer
Gapminder
Endoxin
YouTube
JotSpot
Neven Vision (for Picasa)

Does Google Want to Take Over the Web?

Loading

Yep!

Irenemaria says:

Since Google and Squidoo are friends it would be nice :)

SSabina says:

I don't know, but I wouldn't mind if they did... I think.

AquaDan says:

Of course they do, and why shouldn't they?

No Way!

HerbalHermit says:

No they don't want to 'take over' as that would make them the 'bad guy' but they, like most multinational companies want a 'controlling stake'. I am not referring to any sort of conspiracy just something that lies at the heart of many creatures; greed.

DawnM says:

Hmmm... seems my post didn't take. I'll try again. I don't think that Google wants to take over the web, I think they just want to be the best on the web! ;-)

Chefdan7 says:

And yes, it's a Dan convention!

Chefdan7 says:

I think not!

AudioDan says:

They don't want to take over the web, they just want to be the biggest and best.

We've officially acquired DoubleClick

I'm pleased to share the news that we completed our acquisition of DoubleClick today. Although it's been nearly a year since we announced our intention to acquire DoubleClick last April, we are no less excited today about the benefits that the combination of our two companies will bring to the online advertising market.

Is Google Health a Good Idea or Bad One?

Loading

Good

SSabina says:

Oh, is this a Dan convention? Google Health is a good idea!

Chefdan7 says:

That's a tough one... good? Not sure. Insurance point is a good one, but I travel at times.

AquaDan says:

Good idea! Access your health records from anywhere? Sounds good to me.

Bad

DawnM says:

I'm not sure. On the one hand it would be good to have medical records available at all times, on the other it seems your privacy could be invaded. For now, I'll say no, but will leave the door open to changing my mind when I know more about it.

AudioDan says:

Okay, so maybe I just like to disagree but somehow I think that this could cause trouble... as in insurance companies may require seeing all of your medical records before approving your insurance, or treatment. It just gives me a creepy feeling.
