I Support My President!

Why are so many bashing the President these days? I understood the bashing of George W. Bush, because he was doing things that required national bashing (breaking the law), but President Obama is really trying to do what is best for the nation. Considering what the last administration left him to work with, I'd say he is making a valiant effort. Just the fact that he wanted the job says a lot for him. How many other men would want to step into the pile O' shit that was left for him?

Not a single other president stepped into the oval office with two wars, a global warming crisis, and a failing economy all happening at once. Much of what President Obama has to clean up was the result of the last president and his affection for personal gain. George W. Bush had a personal agenda that the American people paid for.

Americans are bashing the President, but refuse to hold the past President accountable for his crimes against the American people and the rest of the world. It was George W. Bush who sent our young men and women off to fight a war we had no business starting, and cut taxes while he was at it. It was George W. Bush who supported torture of detainees in our prisons (breaking international law). It was George W. Bush who failed to reign in Wall Street bankers before they could collapse our system. It was George W. Bush, among others, who profited directly from these actions, yet it is President Obama who seems to be getting all the flack. There is something fundamentally wrong with that. He is doing the best he can with what he's got. It seems to me that the people who should be getting all of the flack are those in Congress who repeatedly stand in the way of his progress.

George Bush's presidency is where all of our troubles started, yet people still support him. He lied to the American people to get us into a war that no one, to this day, believes in, just so he could finish what his daddy started over there. He committed crimes in the name of the American people and we are letting him get away with it. He is free to walk around as a free man in this country, when he should be locked up and water boarded. Never before has there ever been a bigger threat to America than there was in George Bush's reign over this country, but we are bashing the guy trying to clean up the mess? That makes no sense.

I haven't agreed with everything that has happened since his election, but at least he's trying to save our nation and rebuild it from the devastation of our last leader. He should be praised for even wanting the job of cleaning up. President Obama stepped in shit when he took office and we should allow him to clean off his shoe. GWB shoved us off a cliff, and Obama is down at the bottom trying his best not to let us hit the ground.

I personally think that all of the members of Congress and the Supreme court should be replaced. They are the people impeding the progress of our nation. For example: Corporations are not individuals. They employ individuals. Corporations should not be allowed to buy their way into congress. Corporations do not represent the interests of the people, they represent the interests of profits for themselves. If they were representative of the people, they would not be sending all of our jobs to China, India and Mexico. Let the people who work for corporations have a vote, not the corporation itself. It is a business entity, not an individual. The Supreme Court's decision has been a huge step backward for the American people, and it was paid for by those corporations. America needs to get corporate dollars out of politics. The lobbying of politicians and corporate campaign funding should be banned.

Why do candidates need to raise so much money any way? Why can't they campaign like they did in the old days; shaking hands and meeting the people they hope to represent; or do talk shows on the radio, what's up with these million dollar ad campaigns on TV; no one watches them, do they? Money should not be the basis of a campaign and all of those who screamed for campaign finance reform are the same people who supported the politicians who brought us to where we are, the politicians who support big corporations; or more aptly put... those who are supported by big corporations.

Capitalism is not a form of government, it is a form of trade. Corporate America is not America, the people are. We need to support our president and his hard work at trying to make this country great again. GWB pissed off the rest of the world, and we are hated by many as a result. President Obama has to deal with that too. Give the guy a break.

What I Like About President Obama

Our president presents himself as an average person. He does not put on airs to please the party he doesn't belong to. He speaks to us in a coherent manner and not in a condescending tone. He speaks so that he is understood.

He knows the law and upholds it as best as other will allow him to. He has worked hard, against difficult opposition to do what is best for our people. He earns his paycheck, where many members of Congress do not. He considers the wishes of the American people, where many Congressmen do not. He may have had to bend for Republicans, but he has done so carefully.

He kept the most important promise he made, which was to kill Bin Laden. He did what George Bush would not do. And, I think he's done a good job at undoing the things that George Bush suffered unto us.

If the American people would support the president that was elected by the majority, his job might be a bit easier to do. We need to support our president because he is our president. The majority elected him and the minority should stop fighting against him and putting him down. I think that our Congress is filled with bigots and that is the only reason they don't want to play ball with him.

I don't agree with everything he has done, but he is our president and he is trying to make things better for all of us. Our last president did not care about the American people and it showed. He sent our men and women off to die on foreign soil without cause. He supported torture which is against International law. He profited from the illegal war he dragged us into and refused to take out the terrorist he said he would catch and kill. He lied to us, and President Obama has not done any of those things. The promises that he has not been able to keep are unkept because of Republican opposition to them.

George Bush ruined this country and President Obama is doing his best to fix what was broken by his predecessor. Cut him some slack and help him to do the things he set out to do.

President Obama tells it like it is. He doesn't inflate issues to make people angry without cause. The past administration made it their policy to lie to us. They lied big and often. President Obama does not do that. Republicans are still telling lies to advance their agendas.

We elect people to office to do what we want, but they run on promises that they never intend to keep. They run for office to be big shots, earning top dollar and running the country into the ground in the process. Our elected officials do not care about the American people. They care about themselves and the corporations that got them elected. That is wrong and our President knows that and does not operate this way. He actually fights against it. He is trying to unify this country while the Republicans are doing their best to divide it.

Republicans are the bullies of Capitol Hill.

I will vote for him again. Obama 2012!

Barack Obama: A Great American Hero

Who he is and what he isn't.

Mr. Obama is a charismatic man and an eloquent speaker. He is also an extremely talented writer. He was raised by his Christian grandmother; he is not a practicing Muslim, nor has he ever been. Not that his religious beliefs matter when it comes to governing the country. Remember the separation of church and state? Religious affiliations are not supposed to be a consideration when running for office.

I personally took great offense to the republican smears accusing him of being this that or the other thing... Muslim, a terrorist, etc..

His mother was a white woman born in the United States. His father was a Kenyan. He graduated high school in Hawaii. He studied political science and international relations at Colombia University, and Constitutional Law at Harvard.

Mr. Obama is a husband and father. He came from modest beginnings and has proven that anyone can become whatever they want to be in this country. He is truly a man to be admired.

Throughout his career he has always been on the side of the little guy.

Health Care, War Crimes and Such

Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

That's all anyone is talking about these days... health care. Well there are other topics of discussion on the table, but they all seem to go hand in hand with health care, except of course the war crimes issue.

The have's, aka the republicans, apparently do not want the have-not's to have anything, including their health. Why else would they put up so many road blocks for the President?

While I am very happy about the changes that have been made by our President, there are some things going on that upset me, and one of them is the concessions that have been made toward health care and war crimes.

Health care is an issue that I have passion for. I am one of the millions of American's who do not have the resources to pay for health care, either out of pocket, or through insurance. Health care, in my opinion, should not be so expensive that insurance is required. (God bless all the doctors who have accepted chicken and pigs for payment.)

The issues to wrangle to bring health care to every American:
Medication costs

Fees or services

Malpractice insurance/claims and premiums

Costs for education and research

It scares the living daylights out of me when I hear of cancer clinics closing due to cost constraints. What are people to do, just go home and die? Should only the wealthy have the right to live?

Even if I could afford health insurance, I would not be able to get any for me, nor my 11 year old son. Thank God he gets Medicaid. We have pre-existing conditions. His medication alone is $160 a month. If it weren't for the federally funded clinic, 30 miles north of here, and their sliding fee scale, I'd probably be dead by now, or at the very least, crippled.

I do what I can to stay healthy, but with a child in public school, my efforts are not always enough.

Why is healthcare so expensive in the first place? I think that is the place to start, when discussing reform. The citizens of this country are not any healthier for the price they pay.

I was taken for a three mile ambulance ride and it took me three years to pay off that one, on top of the hospital bill, the doctors' fees, and of course, the drugs.

When did the health care industry take over the government? I thought the government was supposed to regulate this industry, not the other way around. So, what's the problem? Why aren't they regulating? Someone has got to protect the consumer, the American citizen; why do so many have a problem with the government doing its job? What the hell do we pay taxes for? I thought our taxes were paid to fund the government doing its job. Have I been mislead all my life? If the government doesn't protect us from corporate greed, who will?

This is not about bigger government; it is about government doing what it is supposed to do. This is not about loss of freedom; it is about being free to live a healthy, happy life, for as long as possible.

The wobble in the White House truly bothers me. The democrats have control, so why are they cow-towing to the republicans? Who gave this administration and epidural? Where'd the spine go?

It's not just with health care reform that they [the Obama administration] seem to have gotten scared. I cannot get over the fact that there has been any opposition to the issues of war crimes. This is where I disagree with the President: We must look backward to avoid repeating the same mistakes. We can't move forward if we don't look back. We must hold the bush administration accountable for their crimes. The Constitution demands it. We, as a country, investigated Nixon, why can't we investigate Bush? We owe it to the rest of the world, if nothing else.

Don't Ask Don't Tell... what's the hold up there? Just repeal the stupidity already.

I am ecstatic about the withdrawal from Iraq. Way to go Mr. President! I am feeling positive about a great many accomplishments in the first seven months of your presidency. Don't lose momentum now.

You are the President of the United States of America. Do your thing.

The American obsession with people who are said to transcend race began long before Barack Obama moved into the White House - long before he even thought about running for president. Affluent, well-educated black people were being appropriated as symbols of racial progress - and held up as proof that racism no longer mattered - back when Mr. Obama was still a youth in short pants.

Change We Can No Longer Believe In

Barack Obama Video

Democratic Convention 2008

Courtesy of AP:

Surrounded by an enormous, adoring crowd, Barack Obama promised a clean break from the "broken politics in Washington and the failed policies of George W. Bush" Thursday night as he embarked on the final lap of his audacious bid to become the nation's first black president.

"America, now is not the time for small plans," the 47-year-old Illinois senator told an estimated 84,000 people packed into Invesco Field, a huge football stadium at the base of the Rocky Mountains.

He vowed to cut taxes for nearly all working-class families, end the war in Iraq and break America's dependence on Mideast oil within a decade. By contrast, he said, "John McCain has voted with President Bush 90 percent of the time," a scathing indictment of his Republican rival _ on health care, education, the economy and more.

Polls indicate a close race between Obama and McCain, the Arizona senator who stands between him and a place in history. On a night 45 years after Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I have a Dream Speech," Obama made no overt mention of his own race.

My Thoughts on Barack Obama

I'll admit that I was at first skeptical about Obama for president. I was planning to vote for Hillary Clinton until Mr. Obama won the nomination. The reason for my skepticism was his views on immigration. I still don't believe in amnesty of any kind, but all of his other policies to date are sound, in my opinion and I support him whole-heartedly. I voted for him.

After reading his book, The Audacity of Hope, I am very happy with how I cast my vote. I recommend this book to anyone who has doubts about our president, because it demonstrates his honest views of our government, and he actually foresaw the crisis we are in today.

All of the republican propaganda spewed about him is just that, propaganda. Very little, if anything, that has been said to slam him is true. Some of it was downright racist and that disgusts me.

Barack Obama appears to me to be the most honest politician alive.

Cost of the War in Iraq

Talking about spending money... Barack Obama is withdrawing troops; how much money will we save by getting out of Iraq? That will be a boost to the economy.

The First couple back in the day...

Barack and Michelle Obama first met in 1989 while both were working at the same law firm. Michelle didn't date him right away, but held out for a month or so instead. Their first date included a trip to the art institute, lunch a movie and cocktails at the John Hancock Building.

They were married in October of 1992.

This is Great! I admit I didn't like one of your other lenses - things hit home for us in different ways sometimes you know? Different people, different experiences. One thing we can agree on is that we have an amazing President - despite some tea people working hard to prevent him from succeeding (at the expense of the nation). When Bush Junior was in office, among other things, I was simply EMBARRASSED that he was our President. Do you remember press conferences with Bush and Tony Blair standing side by side answering questions? Blair would answer like a thoughtful and educated adult, while our President would answer like an arrogant 4th grader. I support this Obama all the way.
