STAPH (MRSA) IN AMERICA - STILL ON THE RISE! 2009
MRSA Staph is a Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria. This micro-organism is known for causing skin infections, in addition to many other types of ailments. There are other designations in the scientific literature for these bacteria according to where the bacteria are acquired by patients, such as community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA), and hospital-acquired MRSA or epidemic MRSA (EMRSA).
The mission of this Resource Directory is to present:
- the current status of the condition-the facts
- Signs and characteristics of MRSA STAPH
- Diet support to eradicate MRSA - STAPH
- Natural effective solutions for MRSA that 99.99% of Americans are not aware of

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
MRSA Staph presents as a small, red and tender area of skin that is similar to a bug bite or pimple. When the infection spreads, the skin abscess with pus underneath. This further becomes a carbuncle which is larger than an abscess with openings in the skin, or boil (pus-filled area around a hair follicle). This progression is serious and life-threatening. Evaluation by a practitioner is essential. Additional signs that an infection is developing include the following:
- Fever
- Yellow/white or greenish drainage that may have a foul odor
- Tender red/dark pink area on the surface of the skin that is growing in size
The following symptoms may indicate the infection has spread:
- Shortness of breath (concern for pneumonia)
- Shaking chills (infection of the blood or heart valves)
- Severe headache that is different from your normal headache patterns
- Extreme weakness and low blood pressure
- Joint pains accompanying any of the above symptoms
MRSA STAPH FACTS 2009 UPDATE

- STAPH MRSA Related Hospitalizations have increased 119% Center for Disease Control, 2007
- 1999 to 2005, MRSA-related hospitalizations more than doubled, growing from 127,036 to 278,203 and the number of hospitalizations involving S. aureus-related infections also increased from 294,570 to 477,927. Center for Disease Control, 2007
- MRSA is deadly because it burrows into the skin and gets into the bloodstream. "It poisons the blood," "Then, it starts to destroy the lungs," "If left untreated, it can destroy muscle tissue and lead to life-threatening infections in bones and vital organs," "Over the years, MRSA has traditionally been found in hospitals, but now, you can contract it in homes, schools, locker rooms and health clubs." "This thing really gets the attention of medicine because this is a kind of bacteria that we can't kill anymore," "It's outsmarted us, and it keeps ahead of us." Dr. OZ on Oprah Winfrey, April, 2009
- "Staph bacteria can cause different illnesses including pneumonia, skin, blood, and bone infections." Carnegie-Mellon Sports Medicine March, 2008
- The rate of infections caused by the MRSA variety of staph rose:
- 9% per year in the Northeast
- 11% per year in the Midwest
- 12% per year in the South.
- West was 18% per year during the study period. STAPH NEWS, December 7, 2007
- 9% per year in the Northeast
- MRSA infections (19,000 deaths) have outpaced the rate of deaths caused by AIDS-related illness (17,011 deaths) in this country. (JAMA, 2005)

- STAPH MRSA INCREASING AMONG PEDIATRIC FLU DEATHS
3 influenza seasons (2004-2007), investigators at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported an increase in the incidence of bacterial co-infection in fatal pediatric influenza from 6% to 34%. The chief pathogen was MRSA Staph with 64% of MRSA cases displaying resistance to methicillin. Among the MRSA Staph, co-infected children, pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) were more common complications than in those not harboring the organism. Progression to death was quite rapid, occurring within 72 hours of onset in 45% of fatalities. October 2008 issue of Pediatrics
- Plenty of healthy people carry staph without being infected by it. In fact, 25-30% of us have staph bacteria in our noses. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), October 2008 issue of Pediatrics
- MRSA infections are most common among people who have weak immune systems and are living in hospitals, nursing homes, and other heath care centers. Infections can appear around surgical wounds or invasive devices, like catheters or implanted feeding tubes. Rates of infection in hospitals, especially intensive care units, are rising throughout the world. In U.S. hospitals, MRSA causes more than 60% of staph infections. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), October 2008 issue of Pediatrics
- COMMUNITY-ASSOCIATED MRSA (CA-MRSA)
MRSA is showing up in healthy people who have not been living in the hospital. This type of MRSA is called community-associated MRSA, or CA-MRSA. 14% of people with MRSA infections had CA-MRSA.
Studies have shown that rates of CA-MRSA infection are growing fast. One study of children in south Texas found that cases of CA-MRSA had a 14-fold increase between 1999 and 2001.
CA-MRSA skin infections have been identified among certain populations that share close quarters or experience more skin-to-skin contact. Examples are team athletes, military recruits, and prisoners. However, more and more CA-MRSA infections are being seen in the general community as well, especially in certain geographic regions.
It's also infecting much younger people. In a study of Minnesotans published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, the average age of people with MRSA in a hospital or healthcare facility was 68. But the average age of a person with CA-MRSA was only 23. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), October 2008 issue of Pediatrics
1.2M Hospital Patients Infected With MRSA, Annually
- As many as 1.2 million U.S. hospital patients are infected with MRSA each year, nearly 10 times as many as previously estimated. According to APIC officials, 1,237 hospitals and nursing homes responded to the survey, or about 21% of U.S. inpatient health care facilities (Stobbe, AP/Houston Chronicle, 6/07).
- William Jarvis, former acting director of the hospital infections program at CDC -- found that 34 of 1,000 patients had active MRSA infections, and 12 of 1,000 patients were colonized with MRSA, which amounts to an MRSA incidence rate of 46 per 1,000 patients. (Chicago Tribune, 6/07).
- CDC in 2005 estimated that the rate of infection at inpatient hospitals was 3.9 of 1,000 patients, with an estimated mortality rate of 4%. However, some researchers believe that based on the new survey, the mortality rate from MRSA infection could be as high as 10%, according to Lance Peterson, director of infectious disease research at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. If that mortality rate is accurate, as many as 119,000 patients could die of MRSA annually based on the new data (Chicago Tribune, 6/07).
- Lisa McGiffert, manager of the Stop Hospital Infections project of Consumers Union, said MRSA infections are "dangerous" and "there is not enough being done to protect patients from getting them," adding, "Hospitals are going to have to do more. They have to be more aggressive, and it's just not happening" (San Francisco Chronicle, 6/07).
- John Jernigan, a medical epidemiologist at CDC and the agency's lead expert on MRSA, said "Everything we're finding is telling us the same thing: MRSA is an enormous problem in health care facilities, more needs to be done to prevent it and hospitals need to make infection control more of a priority" (Chicago Tribune, 6/07).

If digestion is moderate to strong and warm then the formula can be ingested with little concern.
