Hello I am a cook by trade

Hi am a cook by trade from my mother and she is as well I love to cook unlike a lot of others out there my age. I am 25 years old and have been cooking from the time I was 17. I was raised on a farm and was raised on game meat. we also killed and slaughter our own meat. My mother is a great cook so I took after her and have always wanted to cook from the time I was very small. But I didn't get a crack at it till I was 17 and moved in with my grandfather and I took to cooking like I had been born with a skillet in my hand.
So if you like to eat then try out these great recipes. I am sure that I will make more lens on food.

Skillet Cornbread

Delicious Cornbread Recipe

Skillet Cornbread

Skillet Cornbread is commonly found in the Southern United States, this delicious and easy to make dish is often served beside a pot of brown beans. It can be made a day or two ahead of time, as long as care is taken to keep it from drying out.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup white all-purpose flour

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 to 2 tablespoons white sugar

3/4 teaspoons salt

1 1/4 cups yellow or white corn meal

1 egg

2 to 3 tablespoons melted butter or pan drippings

1 cup milk or buttermilk.

Preheat the oven to 425°F
Grease the skillet with bacon drippings (ideal) or oil. Butter isn't recommended, since it can burn when you preheat the skillet.
Preheat the skillet until the drippings/oil is smoking. This ensures a good crust on the bottom of the cornbread.
In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Thoroughly mix the sifted ingredients together and add the corn meal.
In a second bowl, beat the egg well. Add the melted butter (or pan drippings) and the milk and continue to beat until well mixed.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix using fast strokes. Take care not to over mix.
Pour the batter into the skillet and place in the oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes. The cornbread should have a golden brown color when done, and a knitting needle or knife-point will come out "dry" when inserted in the bread.
Notes:

Ideally, all ingredients should be at room temperature (about 75°F) for this recipe. However, a good result can still be had if this is not the case.

Yellow corn meal is preferable to white corn meal, but this can vary according to locality and personal taste.
Optionally, 1/4 to 1/2 cup of diced cooked ham or crumbled bacon can be added to the batter before pouring into the skillet. This may add a few minutes to the baking time.

Ideally, skillet cornbread should be baked in a cast-iron skillet.

Add lemon juice to apple segments
Mix apples by hand into 1/2 cup sugar and a few dashes of cinnamon.
Transfer segments less aquired juices to pie pan. (This helps prevent the pie from boiling over in the oven)

Pour over apples in pie pan
Dot with butter
Cover with the other crust of the pie
Firm down edges with fork or finger
Cut heart or diamond-shaped vents into top crust

Bake at 350°F (177°C) until golden brown (about 60 minutes)
Serve warm with ice cream or custard

Use a variety of apples to get a wider pallate of flavors and textures
Use 2-3 Granny Smith apples, in combination with the other apples.
Replace the lard with shortening for a vegatarian dessert

Thank you so much for stopping by The Best Dolls Ever. Had you not, I would never have found your recipe for Skillet Cornbread. My Grandmother made this for me when I was young, and a recipe I've always wanted.

Yes, what TheWhistler said! Another lens on food. They say you are what you eat, so I am stuffed cabbage and basa among other things! May I make a suggestion about your lens? I'd incorporate your url into the title of your lens and say maybe name it 'Cooking -- Mrs. Slones Recipes' or 'You'll be Cooking with Mrs. Slones Recipes.' FYI, my ex-husband had to have skillet cornbread at every dinner along with sliced tomatoes! ;)
