And Now I'm Free!
I never thought I would see the day when someone would want me and love me. For more than three years, I lived on a 20-foot rope, in freezing cold winters and very hot summers. I had plenty of time to think and wish my life were different! You see my owners once loved me but lost interest when I grew up. I became forgettable and unloved. My life was a repeat of the day before - day after day, night after night tied to a tree with nowhere to go. I didn't know that big changes were coming!
Several years ago, the house next door was sold and a family of three moved in. Little did I know what a difference the new neighbors would make in my life.
The first time I saw them, they came over to pet me and gave me treats. This was awesome, but what was great is that they had many cats. I knew then that my days wouldn't be as lonely or as boring. Then my owners decided to move me to another tree away from the neighbors - this was bad! I was once again back to no human contact.
Then on a warm summer day, my life changed forever. The parents of the young woman next door came to help their daughter in her yard. While they were working in the yard, I saw her mother looking at me very intently. She then said something to her daughter, and then said hello to me. I responded by briskly wagging my tail. Shortly after, they left.
Several days later, I was to learn what the older woman had said involved me. The next thing I knew I was being freed from my rope and my then family said goodbye to me. The next thing I knew, I was traveling down the road in the neighbor's car. As the young woman was holding me, I was very nervous, curious and scared! What was going on? Where were they taking me?
The trip was short! The first stop was at a house where a young man joined the young woman. Soon we arrived at a nice home with a great looking green lawn. When they got out of the car, I was carried by the young woman up to the front door. Once inside the house I saw the family that had been at my neighbor's house. What was going on? I was so nervously, I was panting ninety miles an hour and shaking as if I was cold.
Then the young girl handed me to her mother. At that moment, I knew I had a new family. My days of being on a rope, outside and all by myself were gone. It was a dream come true. ~

- I love dogs. They are such nice companions. They need people to love them, not hurt them or neglect them.

- Thank you for sharing this story. All animals are such blessings and show only unconditional love surely we can return that to them. So glad that Katie has connected with the family that will truly show her love.
Check out my lens on my little Cairn Terrier. The Cairn Rescue video touched my heart as well.

- This is an awesome story. Someone stopped to think about a dog, something great that the kids saw and learned. An act of kindness.
