My Life Before and After MSM
Before I Found MSM
Ankylosing Spondylitis is a rheumatic disease that is in the group of conditions known as spondyloarthopathies. It's a form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, although other joints can become involved and causes inflammation of the vertebrae that can lead to severe, chronic pain and discomfort. This inflammation can lead to new bone formation on the spine, causing the spine to fuse in a fixed, immobile position, sometimes creating a forward-stooped posture. This forward curvature of the spine is called kyphosis.
Fibromyalgia is chronic, widespread pain with a painful response to gentle touch. The soft-tissue pain of fibromyalgia is described as deep-aching, radiating, gnawing, shooting or burning, and ranges from mild to severe. Pain can increase with activity, cold or damp weather, anxiety, and stress. According to an article at the Spondylitis.org website, it is suggested that Fibromyalgia may be secondary to AS and could be caused by a lack of restorative sleep.
When I Was First Diagnosed
In 2001, my feet started to bother me with pain and stiffness primarily in the morning. They are also partially numb around the bottom of the toes. I have done some research and believe that Ankylosing Spondylitis is the cause. So I went to a neurologist who prescribed a medication for my feet, which required me to take nine pills a day. Now the running total per day for prescription drugs was fourteen and I could feel the affects it was having on my overall health. And, after taking all these prescription medications, I was still in a considerable amount of pain, needed painkillers as well and could hardly function. Stairs were almost impossible for me to navigate.
Here Are Some Websites That Can Tell You More About MSM
Here's a diagram showing what fusion does to the posture in a person with Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Then I Found MSM
After taking MSM for 3 months, I was able to remove all the prescription drugs I was taking. It decreased my Ankylosing Spondylitis and Fibromyalgia symptoms to the point where I do not need painkillers anymore. It also reversed my food allergies and helps me sleep at night. I can navigate stairs again. It hasn't cured me, as there is no cure for these diseases, but it has decreased my pain and increased my ability to function again.
If you decide to try MSM, you need to take the same amount of Vitamin C to help your body absorb the MSM. I recommend Ester-C, as it is non-acidic, stomach friendly. You can find MSM in the vitamin aisle of your local department store. I recommend MSM capsules instead of tablets, as I've found they work much better.
