World War II
As we all know World War I was supposed to be the war to end all wars. But years later this world was dragged into another unfortunate event. World War II was the biggest and most gruesome war in history. Many atrocities were committed and they still have a profound impact on modern culture.
World War II
Background on World War II
Japan was in control of the Pacific. At this time only Britain and Russia were fighting the Axis powers; Americans did not want to get involved. Then on December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. This event brought America into World War II.
America sent troops and supplies to help Britain and Russia retake Europe. Finally on June 6th 1944, the allies sent a large invasion force to Normandy, France (the biggest aquatic invasion in history). Over the next year, the allies defeated Italy and pushed Germany back to their home country. Hitler ended up committing suicide in one of his bunkers. To prevent American casualties, the United States constructed the atomic bomb. America dropped Fat Boy and Little Boy on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to finally end the war.
