Dragons - The Iconic Creature

Dragons have been apart of Magic the Gathering since the very first set, Alpha, was released back in 1993. To date there have been 81 Dragons (cards with a creature type Dragon) released with many other cards that can become dragons or effect dragons in some way. Dragons of Magic the Gathering have continually been the powerhouse gamechangers and dominating story characters.

Here we will delve into some of the different Dragons who have changed the face of the game for all time, or least for an expansion set or two.

Wizards of the Coast recently created a special collector's set for the 15th anniversary of Magic, essentially a dream collection for many long time fans including nothing but Dragons of Magic, Magic: From the Vault: Dragons.

There are only 15 cards in this set. All are Foil. The 15 cards in the set are Bladewing the Risen, Bogardan Hellkite, Draco, Dragon Whelp, Dragonstorm, Ebon Dragon, Form of the Dragon, Hellkite Overlord, Kokusho, the Evening Star, Nicol Bolas, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Rith, the Awakener, Shivan Dragon, Thunder Dragon, and Two-Headed Dragon.

Bladewing the Risen

Bogardan Hellkite

When Bogardan Hellkite comes into play - it deals 5 damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures and or players.


Brimstone Dragon

Flying - haste


Broodmate Dragon

Flying


 

When Broodmate Dragon comes into play - put a 4 4 red Dragon creature token with flying into play.


Canopy Dragon

Trample


 

1G : Canopy Dragon gains flying and loses trample until end of turn.


Catacomb Dragon

Flying


 

Whenever Catacomb Dragon becomes blocked by a nonartifact - non-Dragon creature - that creature gets -X -0 until end of turn - where X is half the creature\'s power - rounded down.


Chromium

Flying


 

Rampage 2 (Whenever this creature becomes blocked - it gets 2 2 until end of turn for each creature blocking it beyond the first.)


 

At the beginning of your upkeep - sacrifice Chromium unless you pay WUB


 

 


Clockwork Dragon

Flying


 

Clockwork Dragon comes into play with six 1 1 counters on it.


 

Whenever Clockwork Dragon attacks or blocks - remove a 1 1 counter from it at end of combat.


 

3 : Put a 1 1 counter on Clockwork Dragon.


Cloud Dragon

Flying


 

Cloud Dragon can block only creatures with flying.


Covetous Dragon

Flying


 

When you control no artifacts - sacrifice Covetous Dragon.


Crimson Hellkite

Crosis - the Purger

Domain - Draco costs less to play for each basic land type among lands you control.
