Climbing Mt Rainier
At 14,411 ft (4,392 m), Mt Rainier towers over Seattle. On clear days, Rainier is visible from just about every Seattle neighborhood.
Nearly 2 Million people visit the park every year, while 9,000 attempt to climb to the top. A mere 5,000 succeed annually. This lens is for the visitors to Rainier that want to actively engage with the mountain. That includes hiking along the miles of trails in the park area, all the way to full summit attempts.

Mt Rainier Travelogs
- Our climb - 2006
- I climbed Rainier with a group of 7 friends, led by RMI. 6 of us made it to the top.
- Unguided climb - 2006
- Short account with a few good photos of a successful unguided summit bid.
- Unguided climb - 2004
- Several great high-res photos of Rainier and a well-written account of an unguided climb. Our experience with RMI was nothing like what they described. In fact, we were incredibly impressed with RMI's professionalism.
- 1998 Avalanche
- While not a travelog, this news account of an avalanche on Rainier remind us of the sobering risks taken at altitude.
