Since you aren't living in downtown Chicago or someplace like that, you don't have all the options of events and things to do like city folks. Many of these outlets stem from not being scared to get a little dirty if it means some good ole' fun. I'm certain that's how mud bogging got its start. And if you don't know what mud bogging is, I will be proud to introduce you.

Appreciating The Sport Of Mud Boggin

4x4 Mud Truck

A quick look at mud boggin as an increasingly popular sport in many rural parts of the country reveals how inventive people can be in coming up with entertaining ways to get down and dirty in the mud. The sport itself makes use of 4x4 trucks that have been fitted with a lift kit and have had their motors improved and fortified. The trucks are driven through muddy trenches and winners are those with the fastest times.

For fact, people living in the country have to find their entertainment where they can in many cases and the thought of strengthening a 4x4 truck and engine to the point where it can make its way through a very deep bog or trench can be quite a lot of fun. These trucks aren't exactly like the typical SUV, though. In fact, they -- are at most -- just country cousins to in demeanor to an SUV.

For the most part, a mud bogging truck is one that has a very strong engine -- sometimes to the point where it is extremely tight and has been modified extensively -- and an undercarriage that has been lifted up to sometimes serious heights. Many of these trucks might even need a small step ladder in order to climb up into their cabs.

In the sport of mud bogging, one will drive his or her truck into a trench or through a bog of a certain length. Courses may be anywhere from 1/8th of a mile all the way up to half a mile in length. The mud will be extremely deep and the chances of getting stuck depend on the skill of the driver and the power of his or her truck to avoid being so bogged down that a truck cannot get out of the trench.

If the truck becomes stuck, the contest or heat is over for that particular contestant and the truck. The winner is determined by the length of time it takes to get down into and then back out of the length of the trench while avoiding becoming stuck. There are sometimes obstacles within the trench and those standing on the sides watching the action say that it's quite exciting to watch.

When it comes to this ever-growing sport known colloquially as mud boggin, it's important to realize that driver skill and quality of truck is paramount. Make sure any truck to be used in the sport has a very strong engine as well as a good four-wheel drive system and that the truck itself has been lift-kitted such that its very large tires and wheels can get it into and out of the trench quickly.

It is not as big as baseball, but mud boggin certainly has its place in American sporting. Whether it's the thrill of the throttle or the slew of mud being hurled through the air from churning tires, something keeps people excited about mud boggin .

There are also a ton of 4x4 Mud Bogging events around the Country. Trucks Gone Wild even makes a DVD about a lot of these. Maybe one day you can make it out to Truck Night at Yankee Lake. It's a weekly Mud Bogging Event in Northeast Ohio. Check it out :)
