The Premiership and Manchester United

I'm going to talk you through Manchester United's seasons since the Premier League started, I will discuss the highs, the lows and I will explain how things have changed and what is the next chapter of the Premier League.

The Story So Far

The Premier League was founded in 1992 and straight away Manchester United took a shine to the league being the first team to capture the trophy in the 1992-93 season they then captured the title again in the following 1993-94 season.
Manchester United are the most successful team in the English Premier League they have won the trophy 10 times in 16 years, their seasons final standings were:

The Changing Times

During the Premier League the way the game is played and how and the players that play in it has changed drastically, United have had to deal with this and at times have lost a yard or so on the competition but always catch up again.

Players Making For The Exit

The departure of Peter Schmeichel was supposed to be a big change for the club and many people wondered how they would get by, but they were not fazed by him leaving as they won 2 consecutive titles without his aid. However in the 2001-02 campaign United lost a lot of their experienced players who had managed to hold the team together, such as Jaap Stam, Dwight Yorke and by the end of it Dennis Irwin, these players were instantly missed and their replacements were not sparkling as Ferguson had hoped with the exception of Ruud Van Nistelrooy as he managed 23 goals in 32 games, with this lack of experience and skill United crashed to 3rd in the league their worst finish in the Premier League so far. The next big player to leave and was instantly missed was David Beckham after losing his place on the right of midfield after recovering from injury, and the various altercations with Ferguson David Beckham was eventually sold to Spanish giant Real Madrid and the very next season United finished 3rd in the league this was a rough time for United finishing 3rd for another year and 2nd in another United did have an immediate replacement for Beckham however in Cristiano Ronaldo who was young and not yet ready to make the huge impacts that Beckham did.

Chelsea Super Spending Power

Another big change was the takeover of Chelsea in 2003 when Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich bought them and began funding the club, he has since given them what they needed and who they need players and managers, as soon as Mourinho was appointed in 2004, well 'The Special One' instantly made an impact guiding Chelsea to their first title in 50 years and United finished a dissapointing 3rd for a second consecutive season.

The Glazers

In 2005 United were part of their own takeover however fans were not happy about this as it would result in massive debts for the club and no fan wants that nor do they want a man who knows nothing about the love of the game owning their team, but despite this the takeover was complete, and this time United finished 2nd in the league, now equipped with more money and their replacement winger Cristiano Ronaldo now understanding the Premier League he was playing well and looked dangerous, United bought Nemanja Vidic in January 2006 and was a key player for them this season also the newly added Michael Carrick was now in midfield this stronger more versatile United went on to beat Chelsea to the title and win it for themselves for the first time in 3 years, the next season United bought Anderson, Nani and Owen Haregreaves and they went on to win it for a second time and as for this season well They have added Dimitar Berbatov who will be an impressive player I am sure at United so lets see where we finish.

City the New Super Power?

Also on the idea of takeovers, an unpredictable take over of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi has happened and City are the new money driven side in the Premier League but will they emulate Chelsea's success or will they fail I'm unsure I'll let you argue that one out.
