Swampscott artist Dianne Jenkins shows her people, houses and drawings at the Virginia Carten Gallery at the Abbot Public Library. She makes people life sized to tiny - each with their own weird personality. She uses found and collected objects in her art work. The cloth people are sewn with old sweaters, cracker jack toys, buttons, doilies, string, wire, shells and other doodads. The houses are painted, stamped, and collaged with twigs, old postage stamps, nails and plastic stuff. Her drawings, one a day, include pen and ink self portraits, abstract patterns and the ephemera of daily life.

Contemporary Chinese Art
New forms of Chinese art was heavily influenced by the New Culture Movement, which adopted Western techniques, and employed socialist realism. The Cultural Revolution would shape Chinese art in the 20th century like no other event in history with the Four Olds destruction campaign. Contemporary Chinese artists continue to produce a wide range of experimental works, multimedia installations, and performance "happenings" which have become very popular in the international art market.
