I took a kinesiology class in college to learn to lift weights. It wasn't until I was forced to take control of my health that
I stepped foot back into a gym. I hired a personal trainer and nutritionist and in as little as 6 months, I was on my way to big changes.

April Fortier IFBB Fitness and Figure Competitor and Fitness Model 

She's one of the rare competitors who has competed in both fitness and figure. April placed third at the Team Universe fitness tall class
as well as third in the Figure Nationals D Class. Prior to that she placed fourth in both fitness and figure at the 2007 Junior Nationals.
April's had a busy yet successful 2007 competitive season. Fourth to Third to First Where will she fair in the next level?
When asked how she feels about competing for the first time as a pro she responded with, "I'm so thrilled to be competing in my first pro shows.

I began weight training when I was 15, about that same time I picked up my first fitness magazine. I was hooked.
Since then I had always dreamed of competing. Last year, I saw an ad for the Ms. Bikini Universe pageant and
Fitness Model Universe Pageant in Oxygen Magazine. It was only eight weeks away, but I decided to go for it.
I put my heart and soul into my training and diet for those eight weeks. I went into it with no expectations,
just proud that I could be there and stand on stage with all these fit beautiful women. To my complete surprise,
I came in 5th place for both competitions! Being on that stage was so exhilarating, I know I will compete for many years to come.

I had so much going on in my life for so long that I never had the time to pursue a modeling career.
Actually, it's probably more accurate to say that I never made pursuing a modeling career a priority in my life.
In August of 2004, at 31 years of age, I finally made the decision to pursue my dream of a becoming a successful model.
I sent in a few bikini shots in to Playboy.com for their"Real Desperate Housewives" search. One thing led to another and in April 2005,
I realized one of my dreams and appeared on the May 2005 cover of Playboy Magazine. This definitely opened the door for me to advance in my career,
but I do realize that my career is just starting and I have a lot of goals that I have yet to accomplish.
It has now been a year and a half since I first started modeling and I have shot for several fitness magazines, Benchwarmer, Mac & Bumble, and the USA National Bikini Team.

Regardless of what my day job was I was always involved with fitness. While in the financial industry I obtained my Personal
Training Certification and trained groups and individuals in my free time. I also began taking acting courses at the
Portland Actors Conservatory where I saw my passion for acting finally come out. It was always something that I wanted
to do but held back for numerous reasons.
When I decided to enter my first fitness competition I knew that nutrition was going to be key to winning.
Hiring a nutritionist was instrumental in landing a 1st place finish in the fitness modeling round and 2nd in the bikini round.
