Museum Of The Paranormal
Set in one of the oldest towns in Canada, Niagara on the Lake is known as the most haunted place in the whole country. Just across the water from historic and widely known haunted Fort Niagara in New York, this is the perfect place to start your hunting and haunting for all things paranormal and ghostly. Created by the Haunted Hamilton leaders and offering Ghost Walks all over Southern Ontario and down into the United States, the Museum of the Paranormal is at home on Queen Street in the old blacksmith building. Some say the blacksmith and his wife and daughter are still there.

Nervousness...
As we walked down Queen Street, not quite knowing exactly what we were looking for, we noticed the fudge shop was closing up for the night. We waved at the girl behind the door with two minutes to spare. My Aunt, Uncle and I got our fudge. Phew, what a relief! Little did we know, right around the corner was the place we had traveled from Hamilton for. There is a sign which can clearly be seen from the main street and I my excitement reached maximum level when we came from the fudge store and saw it for the first time!As we walked down the pathway to the old blacksmith building my stomach fluttered with anticipation. As we approached we could hear the spooky ambient music they had on. The vibes were eerie, yet welcoming and positive. There it was! The Museum of the Paranormal! We were greeted just inside the large opening of the shop by a sweet lady and the friendliest little girl dog. We bought our tickets for the museum and after being ushered by a scarlet velvet rope, were directed up the old stairs that creaked with age and wear. Later on my aunt recalled seeing a female figure in a dress and apron swoop over and sit in an antique chair which sits parallel to the top of the stairs. We seemed to catch her off guard; perhaps she trying to get the little girl to settle down for us visitors.
The museum...
On the top floor, complete with ghost cameras scanning some objects day and night, I supposed, was a large area of the sorts of items I have salivated over since I was a young child. You have to go to see for yourself, I do not want to spoil anything. At this point I had figured the owners had bought this particular building not only because of the set up, the cool factor, but it must have a spirit or two lingering. The museum was hot and stuffy although I couldn't tell if it was like that all the time, because of the adorable pet tarantula on the far side of the room, or because my head started to get that yon "fuzziness" it acquires in a highly charged "paranormal" area. After passing a particular point in our excited meandering and pandering I kept looking back at a particular "haunted" item. The Lizzie doll. I kept seeing what was a child-height vertical line of a "light" of sorts. I assumed this was the doll playing tricks on my brain. It turns out, there may be a little girl still in that building who was actually playing tricks on me in an attempt to thwart her mothers wishes of doing as she's told. I had no idea at this point what spirits were supposedly among the building. Later on when I found this out, (although it was good it may not have been my own mind), to say I didn't get creeped out would be an out right lie.
The Shop...
After a long stroll through the museum my Aunt and I met up with my Uncle back down the stairs, in the shop. Always the eerie music playing, the shop was well set out; it was hard to miss anything. I was impressed at the variety the shop had product wise. All kinds of shirts, ghost books, crystals, incenses, toys, equipment. Fun things, serious things and of course, creepy things. The prices were incredibly reasonable as I have found that partaking in such things you must be wary of those people out only to make a quick buck. This shop was perfect and I couldn't help but buy myself a sage stick for smudging (or cleansing) my house, some protection incense for scrying, (or general spiritual needs), and my favourite thing from the whole trip: a ghost in a bottle necklace. I picked up my sister some root beer flavoured Bigfoot candies. While we were there a young girl in rubber boots and a cowboy hat bought a chain necklace with a bottle cap charm featuring a green background and a picture of the classic movie monster, Frankensteins, head on it. It was the cutest thing ever to see a young girl who reminded me so much of myself able to have a place like this to go with such a friendly and warm environment.
Later on...
Ghost Walk

That evening we partook in one of Haunted Hamilton's famous Ghost Walks. I have been on a few and this one was just like the last Niagara on the Lake one I had attended, with even more information...well, stories...than last. Haunted sites include something on almost ever block of the town. The Angel Inn, where a British soldier still parties (ladies, be wary!), a Masonic Lodge where a missing man still lingers to this day, a court house and an apothecary where the judge still visits to make sure guests are warm during long cold nights. Was that canon fire you heard out over the lake at the old gazebo? Most likely! My aunt and uncle heard it this night when they fell behind the walk a few steps...
If you are going to visit Niagara on the Lake this Ghost Walk is A MUST!
In the end I had absolutely no complaints about the entire visit. Despite the ghost walk tour guide being late everything was better than expected, going late into the night was perfect. I enjoyed my self and the people I were with enjoyed it also. While waiting on the tour guide we got a few tricks from the stores pet dog (always a good thing!) and updates on what Ghost Walks and hunts that are coming up this year. There are a few bus trips in late summer and during the fall that I might just have to attend. As little free souvenirs I got to take home my Ghost Walk ticket and my museum ticket which are neat looking in themselves. Perfect for scrap-booking into my journal and to forever remember my first time at The Museum of the Paranormal!

Post Mortem Poll...

This is just for fun! As far as I know that photo is just a strong reflection. I took it through the window of the old apothecary on the ghost walk. The apothecary is haunted by the judge from the court house, (pictured below), and was known for seances on its top floor during the 19th century when those were all the rage. Spooky reflection though, yes? ;-)
