Museum objectives:-
A few decades ago if a lady stepped out of her house not wearing a pair of nylon stocking then she would be considered improperly dressed.
Whilst I am not saying we should return to those days, hosiery is a small but an important part of fashion history which is worth recording for future generations.
The museum is privately funded therefore has very limited resources, our intention is not to have the biggest collection of hosiery or hosiery related material, instead we are trying to find good example of the different types of ladies sheer hosiery to show you including silk, rayon, nylon and cotton stocking along with tights or pantyhose which gives you a insight into stocking , tights and pantyhose history. Whilst the museum is concentration upon the history of hosiery made from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day ,we have a one page dedicated to modern hosiery as it always important for museum to keep an eye on the present as well as the past also along the way bringing the wearing of hosiery to the forefront of fashions.
