Photographing Mushrooms

Mushrooms Are Fascinating Photo Subjects
A friend called me a "camera nut" and I guess you could say that I'm crazy about photography.
Several summers ago in New Hampshire, it was particularly rainy which restricted some of our usual activities of kayaking and other sunny day pursuits. Due to the excessive rain, conditions were perfect for mushrooms and they were popping up everywhere. There were all colors and sizes of mushrooms.
That's when I discovered I had a passion for mushrooms. Capturing these with my camera became my new summer hobby. I don't know all their names yet, but gradually I'm learning more about mushrooms, lichens and related fungi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical ~ whether experienced or a novice, November 14, 2008
By Benjamin (UK) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Written by a professional photographer and lecturer and instructor, and someone who is also clearly knowledgeable about plants, Macro Photography is a very informative publication. The term "macro" in this instance is taken at is loosest to encompass close-up photography as well as true macro. The book is divided into seven main sections which include an introduction to macro photography, the equipment needed, how to look at images, a section entitled `Realistic or Artistic?' and sections on photographing flora and fauna, digital files and handling. There is also a list of resources, a glossary and an index.
The book sets out to reach both the experienced photographer and the novice, and here I feel it succeeds. The writer, having moved from traditional film photography to digital does well in explaining the differences and how this should affect ones approach. I found this particularly useful having myself been schooled, and schooled others, in the days of film photography. The technical aspects of macro photography are covered quite extensively and very clearly, and all are well illustrated by the superb pictures which accompany the text; a useful point here is that in addition to the coverage in the text each photograph is accompanied by its own explanation along with details of camera, lens and settings used.

It's lightweight and small enough to slip into your pocket. That way you'll have it at hand whenever you see a mushroom to photograph.
It does a fine job on macro photos. Just set it for close-ups (that's the icon of a flower).

- Lovely shots of mushrooms. I think another way to photograph a fungi is to ask him to say "cheese."

- Mushrooms are fun to photograph and they stay still which is always a bonus. What a variety of mushrooms you've found and I like the spider too!

- Lovely mushroom images. I love photographing nature. I am out walking daily and love seeing mushrooms especially when they are attached to falled logs. I did a fungi foray a while back when I volunteered as a countryside warden and learnt a bit about mushrooms and tasted a few. I love the smell of mushrooms especially when its damp and the leaves are on the ground. Lovely lens.
