relax musicA professor at a University in Taiwan has completed a study on a group of elderly patients to see if listening to relaxing music could improve the quality of sleep. Professor Hui-Ling-Lai took a group of 60 people with insomnia and sleep problems and studied their sleeping patterns. 30 of the people were given relaxing music to listen to before bed and the other 30 had nothing.

In the first week the music group reported a 26% improvement in their sleep, and this figure rose to 35% as the study continued and the patients got used to using the relaxing music. Those in the music group reported better and longer sleep during the night, and less disfunction during the day.
