Music and Song in My Life
A far back as I can remember, music has been a part of my life. Whether it was listening to Dad's records, watching music variety shows with my parents, or singing with my family, it seems that there has always been a musical aspect to my life. I can remember watching musicals with my parents and going to see "The Sound of Music" on the big screen. Dad had an extensive record collection, which included everything from Italian opera to music from the Scottish Highlands and the Alps, and I loved it all - and still do. Many of my aunts and uncles were musical, and family get-togethers often included singing along with harmonica and/or accordion music.
My husband and I have been sharing our love of music and singing with seniors by performing on a regular basis in seniors' residences and nursing homes for over six years. Our repertoire includes a variety of folk, country, rock, jazz, and old-time sing-along as well as Celtic, German, French, Spanish and Italian songs. I feel truly blessed to have music in my life and my music lenses are an extension of my love of music as well as a reflection of my interest in other cultures and languages.
