Put MP3 Tracks Your Lens, or Feature Songs and Albums
This lens shows how to enable the new Yahoo! Media Player feature that Squidoo have added, and also demonstrates the Amazon MP3 and iTunes modules.
Why Do You Want a Music Module?
There are many valid reasons for having a music module on a Squidoo lens, whether it's just to make it more lively, or to use it as a platform to market a band or artist.
Publish Your Own Music
If you already have your own MP3 files on another web server, you add them directly to your lens for visitors to listen to.
1. Add MP3 Links to Your Lens
-

- Example MP3 #2
- Example MP3 #3
- Example Movie
- Yahoo! Media Player can now also play videos from Yahoo! and YouTube.
2. Enable the Media Player on Your Lens
Edit your lens, and look for the Lens Settings in the sidebar:

Yahoo Media Player

This is how the media player looks. It will appear at the bottom of the lens when visitors click on any of your MP3 links. This will let your visitors to listen to the tracks, without being able to download them.
Frequently Asked Questions
With Some Answers...
How do I upload my tracks? You need to have another server or hosting account to put your music on to. If you already have another web site, then you could upload your files there. Alternatively, you can sign up for a free account with a online file storage service, like Google Docs or Dropbox. See this tutorial on using DropBox to feature music on your lenses.
Can I Create A Playlist?
By default the Media Player will play all the audio files that it finds on the page. You can instead create a playlist file, and upload that to your webserver instead. Then your users will only see 1 playable link on the lens, and this makes it harder to access your MP3 files directly.
Example Playlist thanks for listening!
Can I Include Album Art?
You can set the image which is displayed in the player during a song. To do this, put an img element within the playable link.
How Do I Set The Title Of The Track?
The "title" attribute can be added to the link code to specify the audio file's name:
<a href="artist.mp3" title="Movin' Right Along">a song</a>
How do I make it play just one track?
Unfortunately, the Yahoo! Media Player will play all of the tracks on the page, and there's no way to make it stop after each one. A work around is to use the Page Break module to separate each track on to a separate page, though this might not be suitable for all lenses.
Can I play videos this way too?
Links to Yahoo! Movie pages and to YouTube videos will play now the video.
Example: Tron video
Money Maker Music Modules
Feature your favorite tracks by other bands and artists using the Amazon MP3 and iTunes modules, and earn a share of the revenue from sales.
Amazon MP3 Module
Make Money By Selling MP3 Tracks
iTunes Module
Make Money By Selling MP3 Tracks
iTunes has become ubiquitous with buying music online, and is probably the most popular site. Feature individual music tracks for your visitors to sample and buy.
Because of a current bug in the system, lenses with this module will start playing music as soon as the lens opens.
| Track | Artist | Album | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halo / Walking On Sunshine (Glee Cast Version) | Glee Cast | Halo / Walking On Sunshine (Glee Cast Version) - Single | |
| It's My Life / Confessions, Pt. II (Glee Cast Version) | Glee Cast | It's My Life / Confessions, Pt. II (Glee Cast Version) - Single | |
| 4'33'' | John Cage | 4'33'' |
Love This Lens?
This module only appears with actual data when viewed on a live lens. The favorite and lensroll options will appear on a live lens if the viewer is a member of Squidoo and logged in.

- I have been having a heck of a time with getting a music player back into one of my Halloween lenses, and still having trouble with getting the yahoo player to work. I miss the playlist being on my site. Is there any chance of getting an app like yahoo pulse 'gigya' or a module that will allow the giga or playlist to work?

- Appreciated this guide to music options. Is it possible to add e-books via the iTunes module? I have not had success listing electronic books. Any advice?

- Its's only possible to add music to the iTunes module, I'm afraid. No apps, videos or eBooks.

- Hello,
I just viewed your lens. I have something similar which on here http://www.squidoo.com/midnightstarr. Mine is all about Creating Your Own Online Radio Station.
However, I did notice something with your Amazon. When I did my podcast, I used Audacity. Audacity is a totally free software.
When I became a Broadcast student, we mostly used Adobe Audition and we learned Pro Tools (Which is for Mac).

- I just tried to put a Grooveshark widget on a lens and got nothing. I tried to put the code in a text module since there isn't a Clearspring module (although I still have one on an old lens from last year) and there was nothing in it when I saved the module. Any ideas? Thanks.
