According to the American Music Therapy Association, Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages.

Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses.

Music therapy interventions can be designed by therapists to:

    * Promote wellness
    * Manage stress
    * Alleviate pain
    * Express feelings

Using Music in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with My Daughter

One of my few happy memories of our NICU experience is watching my daughter sleeping under the special bilirubin treatment lamps with her "shades" on and listening to "tunes" with her mini headphones.

I could almost imagine her lying on the beach in the sun as a teenager listening to music, instead of lying in her bed in the NICU.

Music was one of the ways that I was able to help my daughter while she was in the NICU.

Top-notch site. Though I have a master's degree in counseling psychology, my bachelor's degree is in music theory and performance (- why I was drawn to this site). As a therapist, I often use, or recommend, music to help my clients. This lens will be a good resource for me. Thanks!
