Depending on the songs you are looking for and how much you want to spend, you can pick the vocal score of a show or just the vocal selections. Vocal scores contain all of the songs from any given show. They generally range from $35-$100, depending on the show. Vocal selections don't have every song from the show, just the most popular songs. It is rare for a vocal selections book to cost more than $20.

There are also some great music books that have songs from multiple shows and for various voice parts. I am a big fan of the Singer's Musical Theater Anthologies. They have multiple books for each voice part. You can also buy sets that come with accompaniment CDs.

Into the Woods is an incredible show that weaves together many familiar fairy tales and gives insight into the real lives, hopes and dreams of those characters. Through triumph and tragedy, they all come to realize "No One is Alone." It's fabulous. Check it out!

Soprano books

There are some amazing deals on the Musical Theater Anthologies. For less than $30, you can get the full book WITH the accompaniment CDs. This is a tremendous help to vocalists who don't play piano or have easy access to someone to play for them. These books have been invaluable to me in preparing for auditions.

At most any musical theater audition, you'll see many actors with their well-worn copies of the Anthology.

I love WICKED! I performed a duet with a friend of mine back in state competitions. We did "What is this feeling" and we got straight superiors! We had lots of fun...too bad we decided not to go to nationals... =( We really regret it now lol.

Well, according to the Singer's Anthologies there are no true altos I guess. It's all about belting these days. :-) I swear, the older I get, the lower I can sing though.
