A Glimpse into my RSS Reader

These are the musical instrument news websites and blogs I follow every day.

Working in the industry, I need to keep up on this stuff, so I have each one of these feeds loaded into my RSS reader. Since it took me a while to come across all of these great sites, I figure it's something worth sharing.

Harmony Central

The #1 Online Community for Musicians

The grandaddy of all musical instrument news sites, Harmony Central has been online for over 10 years. This is the most complete news source for gear announcements.

GearPipe.com

Musical Instrument Deals and Discounts

This is a site I started in late 2007. I felt that musicians lacked a good site pointing them toward bargains on gear. A few other shopping sites have musical instrument sections, but nothing as comprehensive as GearPipe.

Electric Guitar Review

News, Reviews, & Commentary

Run by Cary Miller, Electric Guitar Review is (in my opinion) the best electric guitar blog out there. Cary does a great job of breaking new gear news first, offers in-depth product reviews, and is a very entertaining writer.

Six String Soul

...a conscious resource for the boutique minded guitarist

Six String Soul is run by my friend Dan Kern. Dan in I played in a band, Stillhouse Burning, together for a while. He's a great guitarist, and a total gearhead...especially effects pedals.

Gearwire

Another great website that covers all types of musical instrument news. Gearwire also does a great job of covering industry trade shows such as NAMM and Musikmesse.

Music Gadgets

Music Gadgets does a great job of covering all corners of the musical instrument world: guitar, drums, keys, pro audio, recording, etc.

Their news is pretty straight forward but Khriz, who runs this site out of Barcelona, always adds in a few comments of his own.

IG Blog

(life-music-guitar)

Although it doesn't focus as much on gear announcements, this is my favorite guitar blog to read. IG discusses playing techniques, turns his readers on to random guitar-related stuff, and offers general advice on balancing playing music and life.

New York Times

On the New York Times website, they actually have a category for musical instrument news. It's not always totally relevent, but it's kind of fun to see what kind of gear news the rest of the word finds interesting.

Will Chen

Hello, I've started frugalguitarist.com dedicated to providing our readers with detailed reviews of under-the-radar gear and guides to the best bargains on the net. Please add me to your list. We're in the middle of changing hosts so we're having some DNS issues which may redirect to the site preview which should be resolved in a couple days.
