Nostalgia for the music lover - Vinyl Records

Ranked #7,042 in Music, #192,395 overall

Once upon a time, there were record albums.......

We recently unearthed our album collection (vinyl, with pops and scratches) and found ourselves transported back into time. With over 500 albums, the music covers many genres and several decades. We have classical, 1960's rock, gospel, and the original songs from the 1950's Mickey Mouse Club.

Each album has a memory. The 1st Peter, Paul and Mary album was purchased in 1963 and has "A Soilin". one of my favorite Christmas songs. My husband pulled out Todd Rungrun and went back in time to the concert he attended.

Music, regardless of genre, speaks to us in a very personal way. For the music lovers who may have all the CDs and DVDs, there still might be a longing for an album or two and places to revisit. There is nothing quite like taking the album from the sleeve, putting it on the turntable and adjusting the tone arm.

Vinyl is still a great gift

It is a shame that vinyl records have disappeared. For someone who misses the feel of the vinyl and the music that they provided, this is to let you know that they are still out there. Take a look around, there is something for every one.

My Squidoo lenses on music

Sit back and enjoy the music. BTW, I do have all of these on vinyl.

The "1960's Story Songs" was created a part of a challenge. There are so many story song but these were at the top of my favorites.

"A Soilin" is just one of the many great songs featured here. Peter, Paul and Mary is and always will be my favorite group.

It is not Christmas in Southern California without the Beach Boys.

The best record player on the market

This is a quality turntable that reproduces great sound for the mono and stereo records. I keep hoping it will break so I can replace it with the Crosley turntable that also records albums to CD. Unfortunately, it is well made and we have yet to have a problem with it. I find that the price is just right and it would make a great gift for a music lover who still has or wants to play vinyl records. It also plays our 45's.

The one I want

This looks like the one we already have but this one records. With 500 or more albums taking up space, it would be nice to change them to CD's. Besides, there is not a record player in the car so this would really up our listening pleasure.

If you have albums to record, this is the way to go.

Born to be wild

Steppenwolf

Our tastes are pretty eclectic so we need a little psychedelic in there somewhere. We have this on vinyl.

This was long before the commercial on TV today that uses it to show that us older folks can still rock out. It was used on the soundtrack for "Easy Rider" and we were born to be wild long before we became senior citizens.

I love my vinyl collection! I still have some of the kids albums I listened to as a small child, though these days I use a USB turntable. There's just nothing like that warm, crackly sound to take you back a few decades!

Can't beat the vinyl album. Not just the vinyl but the jackets were incredible. A lost art.

I still have most of my vinyl albums, and also a collection of 78's, although I maybe foolishly left my gramophone behind in Florida when I moved back to the UK. Got a couple of rare albums, but most I now have on CD too. Still don't want to get rid of the old vinyl though. I have to admit I don't miss having to lower the stylus in the right place and the problems trying to play just one track.

Hubby plans to transfer much of our vinyl to CD, but hasn't been happy with the user-unfriendly software for it.

I still have my old vinyl. I know purists will always claim they sound better than CD. But I miss large, artistic covers the most. Walking through a record store was often like a trip through art museum.

    Another cool lens! SquidLiked.

I keep hearing that vinyl is coming back, wish it would. Just a few days ago someone told me they weren't going to put out CDs anymore. Anyway as children my brother, sister and I had 78 rpms from "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs." They had been given to us by an older lady. Six songs, three records. I remember the labels, yellow with Snow White and the Dwarfs on them. They must have been the "must have gift of 1939." Anyway wouldn't you know it my mother up and gave them away at some point. Sure wish I had them today.

I still have some originals that I play on occasion just for that old feel. My pride and joy is an original copy of Meet the Beatles.
