Your MUST HAVE products for a new baby!

On this page, you will find my reviews of must have baby products. I have chosen the top baby products that you must have for a new baby.

I'm a new mommy, my baby boy was born on Aug 9 (there he is on the left). I felt the need to share the top 10 baby products that you will absolutely need for a new baby, 1 being the most important! I'm not a paid professional, I just know (through vigorous testing) that this stuff works for me and my other momma friends.  I hope these must have baby products work for you, I know I spent hours looking at customer reviews deciding what to buy while I was pregnant and I hope to make your life a little bit easier (unless you have tons of time to shop around as a mommy or future mommy!) These are also great ideas for a baby shower, baby gifts, and you will probably find most of these items on a baby registry.

All of these best baby products are great for a new baby boy or new baby girl.

10. Safety First 6 Piece Nursery Care

I bought 2...one for the diaper bag, and one for home

You will definitely need one of these kits and for less than $7, you can't afford not to have one. It has everything you need for baby's safety: thermometer, nasal aspirator, nail clipper, and more (actually I only really use those three). I cut my son's nails at least once a week...they grow so fast! This is a must have baby product everyone can afford.

9. A Great Bath Tub and Aveeno Bath Products

For A Clean Baby..the Easy way

I personally have this bath tub and LOVE it because it fits right in my sink. This is definitely one of the best baby products I use all the time. This baby bathtub is so easy to use - fill it with water, wash baby and pull the stopper to drain it. It also folds up for easy storage. I also LOVE the Aveeno wash and lotion. Aveeno baby products are so gentle on my son's skin, he has never had a rash and his skin stays moisturized and soft for at least 3 days!

Amazon Price: $13.20 (as of 10/11/2008)

8. Portable and At Home Bottle Warmers

What do I do? The pediatrician says not to use the microwave!

The time of using a microwave to warm a bottle is over. Using a microwave can denature proteins in the formula and create hot spots that can burn baby's poor little mouth. What to do? These bottles warmers are great tools for mommies at home and mommies on the go. In about 10 minutes you have a warm bottle! The electric at home model you just fill with water and turn on. The portable one plugs in to the cigarette adapter of your car and you can warm a bottle when you are driving! Very handy for holiday travel, I don't leave home without them. This is a must have baby product that you will use daily.

7. Little Tummys Gas Relief Drops

Instant Relief

So sometimes my son gets a little gassy. All I have to do is give him a few drops of these and problem solved...happy baby again. It's perfectly safe to give this to baby up to 12 times in a 24 hour period so for the chronically gassy babies, this product would still work. I received this at my baby shower, and I thought it wouldn't use it. I was wrong, this was probably the best baby shower gift I got!
Sorry, there are no results available from Amazon.

6. Platex Diaper Genie

Sometimes the original is better

I own the "original" diaper genie, and it is great! Works very well at concealing odors. It's really easy to empty and refill and it's pretty inexpensive (you could buy a regular kitchen trash can for the same price). All I have to do after a diaper change is lift the lid, put the soiled diaper in, close lid and twist. When it gets full, I just push the cut button and twist and then empty into a trash bag and the dirty diapers go straight outside, no mess, no smell. Your house guests would probably appreciate you buying a diaper genie!

5. Baby Bjorn Carrier

I can walk the dog with the baby!

I got lucky and got a hand-me-down Baby Bjorn carrier from my aunt. Let me tell you the one she gave me was truly road tested...it had already been through two babies and many walks, hikes, etc. I have a 1 1/2 year old beagle and I can take my baby with me when I walk him. It is handy and easy to use, and I can even throw it in the washer. And *some* mommies gain weight while they're pregnant, this adds resistance to a stroll around the neighborhood.

4. Dr. Brown's Bottles

These are really the best out there.

I had heard so many good things about these bottles, and I knew formula feeding was my only option. Let me tell you, even if you hear complaints about all the pieces you have to wash, isn't it worth the extra effort for easy feeding of your baby? These bottles vent the air to the top of the bottle so your baby swallows less. This really does prevent a variety of problems. My son has never been colicky, had bad gas, and can eat at the speed he wants with 4 different levels of nipples. They are really affordable too, and stand up really well to a dishwasher. I bought a few of those baskets to wash the pieces in the dishwasher and it is as easy as washing any other bottle. These bottles also have silicone nipples so you just need to boil them once to sterilize them and after that just throw them in the dishwasher.

3. Graco Pack N Play

For the Mommy on a Budget!

So if you're like me, I couldn't afford a traditional crib/changing table before I had my baby. My son is 3 months old now and he still hasn't slept in his actual crib yet even though we have one now. He lives in his pack n play. I own this same exact model, and my son sleeps in the bassinet part right next to my bed. It has it's own changing table complete with a diaper and wipes holder. It vibrates and has multiple sounds and even a light that won't be bright enough to wake your baby up at night, but will allow you to take a peak (just to make sure they're still breathing). My husband figured out how to fold it up for travel all by himself in under 5 minutes...record time! Even if you really want one of those fancy "co-sleepers" I bet you this will be of way more use to you (and 1/2 the price for twice the fun).

2. Graco MetroLite Travel System

So you're going to have to get a car seat anyway...

For a little more $$, just get the travel system. It is so easy to use, let me run down for you what I have to do if I want to go shopping. Put baby in car seat, set car seat in base, when we get to the store lift car seat out of base and set down on stroller. It is really that easy, and the best part is...you NEVER HAVE TO MOVE THE BABY! Seriously, this set comes with a car seat base, which you can buy extra of for a second car and then the car seat sits right in the stroller. Another plus - when baby is too big for the car seat, you still have a top-of-the-line stroller for "big kids". The stroller is great and very versatile (I went apple picking with it and the baby never even woke up with all the bumps in the field) and it has a large storage compartment underneath which can hold the diaper bag and new clothes for mommy! The versatility and usability of this set makes it #2 on my list.

1. Baby Papasan Cradle Swing

This is what allowed me to take a shower!

There is a good reason this is number one on my list! Whoever invented this deserves a gold "NewMommy" medal. Easy to put together, easy to operate and really doesn't go through batteries that fast. Your baby can swing front and back or side to side (and trust me mine likes to do both) with just the touch of a button. Every feature on this swing is really necessary. My baby boy LOVES the moving mobile and the music. There are 6 different speeds which you will need as your baby puts on the pounds. Definitely buy this for yourself or for a friend's baby shower! Worth every penny!
