Amazing Bridges
There are so many beautiful and unique bridges all over the world. Some of them are very well known and famous and others you may of never even heard of. The creativity and amazing architecture involved in making these bridges is something almost somewhat surreal. So we are going to take a little trip, here, there, and everywhere to find some of the longest, most beautiful and most unique must see bridges of the world. We can start with the one pictured here, yep you guessed it, it's The Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco. It was one of the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was created in 1937. Since it's completion 8 other bridges have surpassed it's span, but it still remains the second longest in the United States, first being the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City. Building the bridge cost more than 35 million dollars and took about 4 years to complete.
Visiting The Golden Gate Bridge
I have heard that the best way to view the bridge is by foot. Pedestrians can only use the bridge during daytime hours and only allowed to walk on the East side of the bridge. You can also view the bridge by car, bike, bus, or trolley. There are many places to view the bridge from and don't forget to check out what the local tour guides have to offer also. About 40 million people cross this bridge every year. This year make one of those people you. There are a few hotels only a little over 2 miles from the bridge with rates that should fit any budget.Find a great hotel in the area

Longest Bridge In The World
The longest bridge in the world would have to be the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. The Causeway consists of two parallel bridges that cross Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana. The longer of the two bridges is 23.87 miles (38.42 km) long.Over 42,000 cars cross over the bridge each day. The original Causeway was finished in 1956. And the parallel two lane bridge was built in 1969 and it was about 1/100th of a mile (15 m) longer than the original. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is one of six spans in Louisiana that have a total length of 5 miles or more. This Causeway has been through a lot. Not only did it make it through hurricane Katrina but it has been struck by a barge 3 major times that caused part of the roadway to collapse. This bridge is for sure worth crossing over not just for the view but just to say you have. After all for the time being it is the longest bridge in the world.

The Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence Italy is not only one of the most famous bridges in the world but also one of the most beautiful. It is a Medieval bridge that crosses over the Arno River. It was believed to of been first built in the Roman times possibly around 50BC and then it was destroyed in 1117 by a flood. It was then reconstructed and then swept away again in 1333. And then for the third time it was reconstructed again in 1345 by Taddeo Gaddi.
This bridge is more than just a bridge though it is also a street, a marketplace, and a landmark.
I need your help.......
I googled and googled trying to find out the cost it took to build the Ponte Vecchio bridge. The original construction or even the reconstructions and couldn't find any information. Just wondering if anyone with better research skills may be able to answer this question for me.

- I don't know where you could find that kind of info but maybe if you ask to the City of Firenze you'd get an answer or at least read the history of the Medici family - they surely financially participated in maintaining the bridge. Take note that such bridges weren't considered as bridges but well as simple streets with houses on them, like in any other street, which means the lack of interest of people that lived in these centuries regarding the costs and how they were built.

Millau Bridge, Tarn Valley
This is one of the most stunning bridges I have seen so far. At first glance it almost looks like something out of a future fantasy realm. The Millau Viaduct (French: le Viaduc de Millau) is a large cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the river Tarn near Millau in southern France. And I thought it was something of the future but for the present it broke 3 world records during construction.1)The highest pylons in the world( a tower for supporting either end of usually a number of wires over a long span)
2)The highest mast in the world(the mast atop pylon P2 peaks at 343 metres (1,130 ft)
3)The highest road bridge deck in the world(the highest point is nearly two times as high as the bridge that held the previous record.

It is no wonder this is on my list of must see bridges. Just looking at the pictures could almost put me in awe. So I think it is time to take a little trip to France. The Millau Viaduct is located on the territory of the communes of Millau and Creissels, France, in the département of Aveyron. The best way to plan your trip to France to see the bridge and many other great attractions is to check out this site

- Wonderful lens! When I was a child I was terrified to go over bridges, it took me a lot of years to get over that, but now I love them!

- This is a great subject for a lens. I think the Florence bridge is just so old that not many would even know much about it. But you have done a great job here and I am lensrolling it to and featuring it on Rivers of Australia.
