My Amazon Picks

This lens is for me to keep track of the Amazon purchases I make. Amazon has been a fun and sometimes even cheap way for me to shop, even if I'm over in Australia.

Books and CD's come quickly, as it ships directly from Amazon. Some other items are sold through independent retailers. No less satisfactory in terms of service though some baulk at shipping to Australia, or if they do it's at a premium. In those cases I have the goods sent to my Aunty stateside and she sends it on to me. One such parcel where I had got a few goods, I actually saved $100 in postage by doing it that way.

The items here will either be things I'm thinking of getting, things I've just ordered, things that are in transit (they may take a little while longer because they'll go via California) and then there's the things I've taken delivery of.

Those items already in my possession I will be doing a review of each. Which will take me a little time to sort out. But it'll be an honest and straight review. Of the product itself, there's no need to review Amazons service. As I take it for granted that they've done or will do the right thing.

I hope its not too late to get in an order in time for Christmas at Amazon. Keeping in mind it needs to get to me down in Australia.

I've already got one of these. But I really want another one. It's a wee bit smaller in size. I had considered going up in size, but being a bit smaller, though not in screen size, has its benefits. So I thought I'd 'upgrade' and get the new Kindle because they're saying the display is even better (the current one is brilliant, its much nicer to read off an e-ink display than a normal screen), the battery lasts longer, more capacity (though I'm not sure I'll ever fill it even if it were half the size) and a better web browser apparently. That will be interesting to see. I'll report back on all those points.

I've got myself a few spare hard drives that I use with a docking station. I swap them around depending on what I'm doing. I've got MP3s and digital photos on one, movies on another, all my data and files on one that I pretty much have plugged in all the time. I also have a back-up one and have now got into the habit of backing up all my stuff once a week. I lost 5 weeks of work at the start of March, I guess it could have been worse, like if I it had happened prior to me having all these extra HDDs, I'd have lost months of work. I bought this HDD to replace the one that I accidentally dropped that caused the data loss.

Okay, I ordered these through Barnes & Noble, and it took 19 days to arrive. Which has been the quickest from them. A couple of years ago I ordered the best present an 11 year old girl ever wanted for her birthday, she got to choose it, and it took MONTHS to arrive. And every single day she'd be "do you think it'll come today?" and in the afternoon after school "did it arrive?".

So I've been a little hesitant to order stuff on BN and I usually do so and then push it out of my mind, not keeping track of when it might arrive. The advantage BN has over Amazon is that they accept Paypal, which of course is how Squidoo pays us. I think I might be spending more of my monthly Squidoo funds at Barnes and Noble. I also make money off of Amazon through my hubs, and I take that all in gift vouchers. So perhaps on a good month I'll be making two big orders. We'll see. We'll also see if I remember to update this lens with my not-so-ill gotten gains.

What I like about Amazon, if I haven't mentioned it already, is that they under-promise and over-deliver. They say that it'll get to me in 4 to 6 weeks and usually in about 2 to 3 weeks I've got it. I love surprises!

What I like about Amazon is you can pick whether you want the items as quick as possible, or bundled together for the one shipment. Which means if they don't have all of them in stock, they'll send off what they do have, so you get it as soon as possible. You pay extra postage for this of course.

However...

If you choose to have them sent all together, they send you what they've got STRAIGHT AWAY, and will send the other stuff as soon as they get it. AND they don't charge you extra for postage.

Crazy huh?

But it works for me.
