Tattoo Ambigrams are Cooler than any other Tattoos

If I were to have a tatoo, I'd like it be an Ambigram of a poem. Even a gothic ambigram of my name would do. It wouldn't be fair not to say that although ambigrams have been in our midst for centuries, it was the conspiracy novels of Dan Brown that mad them popular and famous. After the publication of those novels, tatoo designs based on the the concepts of Ambigrams flooded the streets.

This lens is about shedding light to the different tpyes of ambigrams. Not everybody has the skill to draw an ambigram. I know I don't. So just before the end of this lens, you'll find a resource (sad to say not free) on where to get the best ambigrams in the planet.

Different Types of Inversion (Ambigrams)

...

Nobody can deny the mystery and art an ambigram evokes. For this reason alone, ambigram tatoos are the best designs anywhere. Combining Ambigrams with tribal designs even puts more flair and class into anyone wearing them. Note that each ambigram is a exquisite blend of calligraphy and optical illusion.

There are two types of ambigrams: Symmetrical and Asymmetrical.

SYMMETRICAL AMBIGRAMS

Rotational Ambigrams - Words in this type of ambigram reads the same when rotated 180 degrees. That rotating image above is a good example of a rotational ambigram.

Chain (rotational) Ambigrams - This tpye consists of infinite repeations of one word. The word is divided into different parts and designed as part of the entire rotation. Thus chain ambigrams cannot exist in one word and best displayed in a circle or spiral.

Chain (bilateral) Ambigrams - This has the same properties as the Cahin Rotational ambigram but this one reads the same from behind or when viewed from a mirror.

Bilateral/Mirror Image - Take a close look at the image on above. It reads "FeedBack". Bilateral ambigrams read the same when seen through a mirror or whe read from behind. Like if it is printed on a transparency sheet or a clear window.

"Web" ambigrams - Another type of Chain ambigram. "The word CONTINUITY by itself almost made a credible rotational chain, but the Y (made from the first N) lacked a tail. In order to give it a tail, the N had to have the same tail above it, thus necessitating a vertical series of horizontal chains, linked by that shared tail." - JLangdon

Totem Ambigram - An ambigram that reads the same vertically and has a mirror image property.

ASYMMETRICAL AMBIGRAMS

Symbiotograms - These ambigrams read differently from different vanatage points. It mainly depends on the readers perspective. They com in two types: rotational and bilateral

Figure/ground Relationships - The spaces within the letters form letters related to the main word.

Oscillations - These ambigrams read differently from different vanatage points. It mainly depends on the readers perception.

I've never heard of ambigrams but these are so amazing. My favorite is the True/False pic. Even though I read your supporting description it took me a minute to realize these were different views of the same picture. Incredibly tricky! I'm blown away. Neat lens. :)
