It can be defined as a constant state of worry and nervousness that consumes you. Anxiety can be paralyzing and the vague and unpleasant emotion is usually marked by the constant anticipation that something bad is about to happen.

The puzzling aspect of anxiety is that it's based on a mental illusion and that the fears self created and unreal - although they are experienced as being very real. It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as sweating, tension and increased heart rate (caused by a rush of adrenaline).
