My bucket list - 100 things I want to do

Ranked #176 in Squidoo Community, #25,142 overall

My bucket list

Everyone has things they want to try, people they want to see and things they want to do. However like most of you reading this, I put things off until it is too late. Usually it is due to money and time retsraints, so I decided I am going to create this list which is already floating around my head and see how many of them i can tick off and how many left to do.

I think everyone should have one of these, it is fun and often surprising.

I will also be writing down when I have achieved them or at least my attempts!

Don't forget to add your lists if you decide to make one......

11. Visit Prince Edward Island in Canada

I have always been a big fan of Anne of Green gables by L.M Montgomery. I remember when i first picked up the book as a child, the writing was wonderful and I was allowed into the world of this firey tempered young redheaded orphan and followed her on her journey to become the woman she shaped herself into.
It was wonderful, making me cry and laugh, these characters that were captured within the pages and bought to life by one of last centuries most imaginative writers.
I then went on to watch the series with Megan Follows as Anne and Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert Blythe. I waited excitedly each week for the episode and at the age of 9, I had my first crush on Gilbert, he was everything i wanted my dream man to be!
I have watched the series so many times, as have my mom and sister and read the books more times than I can count. I now want to complete this with a visit to the island where it was all filmed on and for a short while imagine myself to be in their world.

20. Write a short story

Take lessons.

type=textI have always written my thoughts down in a diary and I have a good imagination; I would love to change this into a short story. I know that there is a true art form to a short story as you have to compact all the information of the character and the settings into a really small space.

I want to and I am going to, probably when i retire, take lessons in achieving this goal.

July 2011 - I have completed the third draft of a short story and in the next couple of week I am sending it off so cross fingers for me.

29. Own a book shop

type=textSince I was little I have had a passion for words, books and anything related. It fascinated me and still does, the amount of variety in the written word from serious literature, mainstream, advertising, language both verbal and non verbal and I want to see it every day.

I have always wanted to own a bookshop, one that specialises in scond hand books, to know that the person buying it is in a line of people who have gained enjoyment from a book and will add their own imprint to it. Books have history in both the stories and the journey the books themselves have been on.

This is my dream.

39. Get a tattoo

I have wanted a tattoo since I was 10 and when I was 27, I took the bull by the horns and went and had one done. i have never regretted it, I still love it now and it has made me want more.
I would like three more and I am working on the tattoo design.
My tips for finding a tattoo artist are
1. Make sure they are an artist not just a tattoist. A person who loves what they do and has the skills can make a great tattoo amazing.
2. With the above in mind, do your research, visit them and see their work. Everyone is looking for something different so if you like them and feel comfortable then they are the one for you.
3. Take your time over the design and where you have it. Mine are descreet and only for me but many people like to have them on display and they can look fantastic so choose wisely.
4. Enjoy it though I can tell you, it hurts!

Some great websites to get ideas for tattoos

there are so many websites for deisgns and the tattoo artist you go to, could be a great designer too, it's worth asking.

However I have added a couple of sites below for you to browse.
Tattoo designs free
I have browsed through this and it states you can use their designs for free but I don't know first hand.
Bullseye tattoos
Some lovely designs on here, some quite different.

The next few

48. Go to an auction

49. Walk the Malvern Hills - achieved at the age of 13!

50. Create a home

When I met my husband, I knew he was the one for me. I want to feel that way about a house when we find one and then when we do, decorate it to our style; making it our home.

I love these programmes where they take an empty husk and create something beautiful out of it. However I do not think I have the skill or energy to do this so instead what I propose to do is make the inside somewhere comfortable, inviting and a place where we can call home.

Home is what you make it.

59. Go on a cruise

60. Ride a camel

It's one of those things that I know I'd love to do because if you think hard it's a bizarre thing to do. For me, who has yet to meet a camel, it seems like a far off dream but when I couple it with wanting to go to all the continents, this'll be one to do on one of those trips.

The camel hub of the web

Thought it was an interesting read if you ever decide to ride a camel, they compare it to horses. Having never read either, thought I'd leave you in their capable hands of explaining.
Camel photos
Camels can travel many days without food or water, this can be a very important factor. They are quieter and gentler than horses and seem smarter about getting themselves out of a precarious situation and can carry more weight.

Loving the camels

And the next lot

61. Sleep under the stars and moon (and not in the comfort of a tent!)

62. Go travelling for a year

68. Go swimming with Dolphins

69. Vounteer in a homeless shelter

Five years ago I volunteered on Christmas Day at a local homeless shelter. We made it a fun day for them and I, who was cooking dinner, hopefully gave them at leat one good meal. Many of them had sad stories but they just wanted to talk and have a laugh and I felt that they gave me something back.

I don't think that everyone should have to volunteer as there is nothing worse than reluctant people feeling obliged to help but there are so many people out there that need help. So as an important one for me on my list I am again going to volunteer and hopefully make a difference in someone's life.

I have added some links below if you are interested in helping out.
Volunteering England
This is a great website if you want to volunteer in England or manage volunteers.
Volunteering in America
At the bottom of the page there is a search engine to find volunteering opportunities in your area.

79. Get a degree - working on this! 10th Oct - I am in the first year of my access course and loving it, applying for uni at the mo, cross fingers!

80. Own a library

I am sure you can see the theme of books! I have always wanted to own a library in my house, a room dedicated to the 1000's of books that I own and the ones I yet to own. I have read all the books I own and some several times over.

I would love to have a massive chair and table to rest my coffee and a beautifully lit room that enhances the reading experience. I love people borrowing my books as they are meant to be read.

90. Go to a music festival

91. Bring awareness about sufferers of Chronic Urticaria

Started this already by creating a page about it and places to get help. I am going to continue to develop this and enable people to have easy access to all the information they need.
Living with Chronic Urticaria
Want to know how to cope with chronic urticaria? Who can you turn to for help with dealing and possibly curing it? What causes urticaria and is it ever worth paying lots of money for a miracle cure for it? These questions used to turn around my mind; trying to pin down one place, I could get the answers, was difficult.

99. Complete a hard suduku

100 - Be a good friend

This was going to come earlier as I didn't want to leave on a cheesy note. However I feel that for me this is one of the most important things on my list. I have some very special friends in my life and I intend that the one thing I am going to do is be a good friend always and show them in lots of ways!

Obviously not telling their secrets or reminding them of those embarrassing moments, they do the same for me!

Friendship can be one of the most rewarding and wonderful things. Enough soppiness now!!

I agree with Steve below, this is such a lovely list, lots that are on mine but twirling on the mountain top is a really unique one. I want to go snorkling too but my greatest fear is drowing so going to overcome it one day, it's on my bucket list.
  • SteveMartaindale Sep 17, 2011 @ 3:29 pm | delete
I love your list; there are so many items that seem to reflect genuine personality, not just the standard bucket list ... such as twirling on a mountaintop while singing. As your list repeats a book theme, mine has a heavy travel emphasis. Feel free to check it out at http://www.squidoo.com/steves-bucket-list. Good luck!
