Do you Need Ideas to Celebrate the Upcoming Christmas?

Christmas time is that time of the year that is so special because of the joy and the magic the holiday season brings into our lives. Christmas is a time for home decorating activities, family and friends gathering, sharing the joy and happiness we get from giving and receiving.

Depending on traditions in our own country, Christmas Eve will gather families for a great dinner and a joyful evening, some will attend the Midnight Mass, some will read Christmas stories or simply share the pleasure of being together in a warm atmosphere. On Christmas Day, children will open their gifts and enjoy the new toys they would have get, while parents prepare the family dinner.

Christmas is also that time of the year that brings so many memories to the most of us.

The Christmas Traditions

Where do Father Christmas, wreaths, stockings, trees come from?

Mainly, those of the Christian faith observe Christmas as it is supposed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, over the centuries, they brought additional activities to the celebration of Christmas, such as gift giving, home decorating, etc.

Most of those activities became traditions and each country has their own; most of those activities also originated in Europe.

Christmas Celebrations all around the World

How do others celebrate Xmas?

Centuries of traditions, both religious and secular, in many different countries led to the Christmas celebrations we know nowadays.

Indeed, Christmas wasn't celebrated in the same way in all Christian countries nor isn't today. Santa Claus is the American version of Father Christmas, Pere Noel was inspired by the Great Saint Nicolas (or Sinter Klaas), Spaniards don't get gifts from Father Christmas on December 25th but get them from the Magi on January 6th. In Belgium, the Netherlands and some regions of France Father Christmas doesn't bring gifts to children, and so on...

Therefore it is interesting to have a look at the different ways people all around the world celbrate Christmas.

Send a Christmas Card

Personalized Greeting Cards...

Christmas Kiss cardChristmas traditions wouldn't be what they must be if we wouldn't be sending Holiday Greeting cards! They have become as important as Christmas Eve, Christmas Mass or even gift giving.

This tradition originates from Great Britain. With the public postal service called "Penny Post", sending Christmas cards became a "must" around the mid-1800s in England and Christmas cards started being produced largely in the second part of the 19th century. For sure, the small price (a half-penny) for sending Christmas cards in an unsealed envelope must have been the reason for such a huge success.

Christmas Home Decorating

Holidays home dressing

Another Christmas tradition is the home decorating. Most of us make use of ornaments that give a lovely and brilliant look at the house on the occasion. Those decorations bring the magic to the season.

Indeed, while the Christmas tree is the central decorative item of the holiday, most of us like to decorate it with beautiful objects such as icicles, hand-blown glass balls, sparkling garlands, lights...

I love Christmas decorations and that's why I made a few lenses about them.

Christmas Parties and Music

No Carols no party!

Celebrating Christmas since our early childhood allowed us to gather memories that we love, cherish and share with our beloved ones, whether when celebrating the holiday with our family or creating our own family tradition after having left our parents home.

Amoung those wonderful memories are the Christmas songs and carols. The tradition of caroling originated in England when musicians used to go from towns to villages, visiting the homes of the nobles, giving impromptu performances. If you want to learn more about them, here's a lens only dedicated to those marvelous Christmas songs and carols we like to sing during the holiday season.

The Art of Giving Christmas Gifts

This Christmas, I want...

Many people think that gift giving during Christmas originated in England during the 19th century.

However, Louis XIV used to give gifts to ladies on Christmas in the 16th century. He used to offer jewels and most of them were given during loteries. Each ticket won a gift - and sometimes the lady got money. Obviously, the biggest commercial trend of Christmas originated in America.

Are you still looking for presents to give to your beloved ones? Here are a few ideas.
