My Animal Collection Plus Some Good Friends

I love cute little things like my collection of ceramic figurines. I have cat figures, dog figures, pig figurines, duck figures, bears eating fish, a donkey figurine pulling a cart full of rocks, a lizard, a chef, a cowboy, and a Dutch girl, and more. So much more.

I also collect other smalls (this term means small collectible items in the antiques world), but this lens is devoted to my animal collection plus a few of their good friends.

Through the years, I've collected these small figurines, planters, bottles, erasers, etc. I've inherited a few of these guys, like the blue cat planter and the turquoise Chinese dog shown later. I have to say, it's pretty darned thrilling to walk into a thrift store or an antiques store and spot a gem.

Cat Statues

Cat Figures Make Me Smile

Cat Figurines Are Purr-fectI love cats. These cat figurines are all a bit larger than many of the other ceramic figurines in my collection. Here's a rundown of these pretty girls:

Blue Cat Planter: I've had this blue cat planter the longest. This cat was around the house when I was growing up. In her prime, Mom grew a long skinny cactus in her and she had quite the tail. For some reason, no one else wanted her! Can you believe that? Score!

Cats in a Basket: I was the lucky winner of the three cats hanging out of the basket at an auction. They are adorable. I store some sweet gum balls in the basket.

Cat and Cart: The cat pulling the cart was also an auction find. I really need to add something to this pretty girl's cart so she can earn her keep.

Dog Statues

Dog Figurines in More Than Just Ceramic

Dog Statues Minding Their Own BusinessMy dog statues or dog figures are not all ceramic but they all wanted to crowd into the photograph.

Clear Dog: See the tall clear guy in back? He's not ceramic; that dog is glass. He is a bottle or jar, complete with a screw on lid. He would look beautiful with some colored water in him, wouldn't he?

Dog Playing Accordion: The little dog playing the accordion is my favorite by far. He is tiny and quite musical.

Sniffer: Then there's the tracking dog, sniffing the ground. Quite a talented pooch, that one is.

Tiny Black Dog: And the tiny dog front and center. What's his story?, you ask. I don't know. He's not ceramic either. I think he's a stray game piece maybe. But he hopped into my hand from the shadow box on the wall when I went to get the accordion dog.

Chinese Dog: And last but not least is the turquoise dog that has his body all twisted. He's a Chinese dog sitting on a brown basket. Very regal, he is.

Human Animals

These guys are not animals per se, but I had to include them. The cowboy is my dad because Dad loved riding horses. The Dutch girl is my mom. She was part German (a Dutch girl, sort of).

The little house is a fine little ceramic figurine. And it's scented, to boot! I don't know how they do that, but it has a pleasant scent when you take a whiff. I store the pretty feathers I find in the chimney. The feathers are smoke.

Cow Creamer

Ceramic figurine for sale

Cow creamer ceramic figurineIn my Etsy shop, I love tracking down ceramic figurines to sell. I recently listed this cow creamer for sale.

This cow creamer is not only cute--he's useful! You can pour creamer or milk into your morning coffee right from his snout!

What is Your Favorite Figurine in My Collection?

I've already told you that the accordion dog is my favorite. But of course, that depends on the day. I also adore the donkey pulling the cart full of rocks. And the blue cat planter. Hmmm.

I like cutsey figurines, and have all sorts. Among my favorite are what I call chair figurines--little cats or dogs sitting or climbing into chairs. These are porcelain, and from the 1950s.
