My Dog Sasha - A Pit Bull Mix

Time to Meet Sasha!
How it all began: I found Sasha almost 10 years ago (2/1) when she was just a pup. I was working in another state delivering new cable boxes to current cable subscribers. It wasn't a great job but the money was good and it was only for the summer.
Anyway, one day while I was working, a puppy came running out to me from the woods. She was filthy and had a nasty wound on her nose, it was obviously infected. I couldn't believe that she didn't run from me, I just assumed she was going too like any other dog. To my surprise, she let me pick her up to check her out. I put her down and she stayed with me until I finished dropping cable boxes off to the rest of the customers.
I asked everyone in the area if they knew who owned this puppy, no one came forward. So, I decided to take her home with me that night because I was going to be in the same area for the rest of the week. I couldn't just leave her there to stay in the woods again.
On the way home from work the first day, Sasha and I stopped at the pet store to get her some food and shampoo. She curled right up into a ball in my arms and didn't budge while we went shopping.
When I returned the next day, I continued to ask others if they knew who owned the puppy. Again, no one came forward and it was obvious that she no longer had a home.
At this point, I was so hoping no one would call to say they lost their puppy because I have already fallen in love with her in such a short time and knew that she was very happy where she was!
The intro picture is the only one I can find of her when she was a puppy. This was taken about 2 months after I found her and she was much smaller than this photo.
What would you have done?
Take the puppy or leave the puppy???
It's official......I Have a Puppy!
I made an appointment for her at the vets and I told them everything that I have done to give the owners a chance to come forth and reclaim her, but nothing. So as long as I did that, the vet said I had every right to take her in and care for her. They estimated her to be about 2 1/2 months old during our visit and other than her being flea infested and the infected cut on her nose, she was very healthy.
At the time, I didn't know what breed she was and they said she was a Pit Bull or a Pit Bull mix. I didn't care what breed she was and made a followup appointment for her nose and to get her shots.
Seeing that it was official that I have a new puppy......I had to give her a name. Sasha was the first name that came to me, there was no deep thought to it.....just Sasha!
I was so excited and she was too! She finally had a place to call home and she adjusted immediately with no problems at all.
Fast forward 10 years.......
Here we are, Sasha, my son and I, 10 years later! After all the comments about how bad of a dog she would be.......she is still glued to me since the day I found her and has been the best dog I have ever had, I couldn't ask for a better dog! We've been through a lot together and I can always count on her to be there for me. She's been great with my son, almost 7, and I'm pretty sure she will always be there to protect him or me if ever needed. One of the reasons why I say "I'm pretty sure" she'll protect us is because she's just so darn friendly with everyone, sometimes I second guess if she will protect. I never want it to ever come to that, but I guess when you have a dog for many years their instinct to protect will come when needed.
She lost a few friends in the years we've been together, two cats (Fatty-17yo & Baby-14yo), a Yorkie Terrier (Nicky-12yo), a gold fish (Nemo-3mths) and a Day Gecko (Sticky-7yo). :-(
Sasha's favorite things to do........

One of Sasha's favorite things to do is curl up in a ball on my bed and somehow, sleep under my pillows! Most of the time she's on top of my pillows (like in the picture) with the sad look in her eyes when I walk in to find her there! I'll usually let it go because she's so cute, still!
We play hide and go seek....really! When she runs in the other room I'll go hide....she goes crazy running around looking for me, it's so funny!
We watch Animal Planet together. When she was a puppy I would leave it on for her when I went to work. Now that she is bigger, she has no problem reaching the TV and has to lick the entire screen! So, I don't do that anymore but will put it on for her while I'm home. When she was about 3, she watched an entire Disney movie. I can't remember the name of the movie, but there were dogs in it. I couldn't get her away from it unless it was a commercial.
We watch YouTube videos of funny animals. I use an old laptop (I know she'll lick the screen) and run it full screen so she doesn't miss anything, it's pretty funny.
Sasha loves to go for a walk and has to smell every blade of grass along the way! So, sometimes even though she may be enjoying it, I may not because we're stopping every second.
Does your dog like to watch TV?

The best dog ever!

She was a bit over weight in this picture.....
What about the Pit Bull part of Sasha?

To me it doesn't matter what breed she is, I believe it's all in how you train your dog.......no matter the breed! I'm pretty structured, so she fit right in.
I've seen all the glares and have heard many comments while walking with her. One time while taking a walk at the beach, I had someone say to me that I should muzzle my dog if I wanted to walk there. Well, let's just say that didn't go over too well with me! Meanwhile, a couple of miniature breed dogs looked like they were going at it while my dog was just sitting there looking to see what was going on.
I have also been told that some kids in my neighborhood couldn't pat my dog anymore because she was a "fighting dog"!!!! Again, that comment didn't sit well with me! But, for over a year they were allowed to pat her, they had just found out that she had "Pit Bull" in her.
The end result is that I can't stand talking to closed minded people.......

- I have a pitbull mix named Sasha as well. We rescued her from the SPCA. She has food allergies and we have helped her heal and treated her allergies. Everyday she gives us so much love and affection. She plays with our 3 year old Havaneese and I'm sure the little guy gets the best of her. He literally hangs off of her face and she just looks at me as if to say "REALLY?". She still has some "strange dog" issues, but she no longer growls at people and she loves her little dog. Once she has met a dog, she doesn't even care if they are in the same room or planet, but that's just left over from her last owner and we are working on that. She is certainly not a "fighting dog" and that term gets under my skin as well! I'm so glad you rescued your Sasha and I'm so happy everyday for our "rescued" Sasha. If people only knew how much love they could give, they wouldn't be saying and doing the things that they do about our "bundle of love wrapped in fur" (our little nick name for Sash). Thanks again for rescuing one of the most wonderful breeds.

- I hate it when people say those things about pit bulls!! From my experience, they are some of the most gentle dogs around. They are total cuddle monkeys and are so emotionally sensitive (ours, Punkin, will cry when one of her toys gets taken away by another dog. lol). Blame the owners, not the breed!
I'm so happy you took in Sasha. There need to be more people like you in the world. :)

- I agree with you about people saying things about Pit Bulls. The comment to me about her being a "fighting dog" really pissed me off! There was a dog fight in the neighbor hood and everyone thought it was Sasha.....hmmm. It was a Shepard that attacked a Terrier (don't know exactly what kind), but he got messed up pretty bad as well as the owner and the dog didn't do anything to provoke the Shepard. Anyway, I could go on about this so I should probably stop myself now...lol! Thanks for stopping by......
