My Experience with Thai Massage

Ranked #27,420 in Healthy Living, #381,564 overall

Planning our first or even our thirtieth massage session is always an exciting experience, as you know that you'll soon be enjoying a more relaxed and calm state of mind as well as an improved state of health. When I went for my first massage session, I was skeptical as to the results, although after my first session I was a convert to therapeutic massage after having a deeply enjoyable session. Although I had seen pictures and videos and had read some articles before going for my therapy session, I just had to try it for myself so that I could see whether massage was really all it was cracked up to be.
Thai massage is also sometimes known as'lazy man's yoga', due to the role of the massage therapist during the therapy session to transition you into various positions and postures with passive movements to help you achieve total relaxation, healing and recovery. One thing is for sure, Thai massage involves a lot of motion that may seem to be painful and difficult to accomplish, but that are actually accomplished without any pain or discomfort.

Before I arrived at the massage spa, I was told to avoid eating heavy meals before my scheduled session in order to avoid complications and discomfort during the therapy session, as a full stomach may be prone to vomiting because of the twisting, stretching and bending motions used during the therapy session. I was also advised by my therapist to drink plenty of water before the therapy in order to cleanse my system of toxins that could be harmful to my health. These were easy tasks for me and would be easy tasks for anyone; following these tasks also meant that I was fully prepared and was at a minimum risk of harm or damage during the therapy session.

When I got inside the massage room, I was asked to lie down on the floor mat which was covered in bed sheets for my comfort. I remained in my clothes as my therapist did not require me to remove them. During the therapy session, the therapist performed a number of passive movements in order to align my body properly to correct structural balance and to improve the condition of my physical constitution. As I lay on the floor, most of my moving body parts were worked on by the therapist, from my toes to my feet to my fingers. The therapy consists mainly of stretching and bending, with the masseuse using his arms, feet and sometimes his or her whole body weight to properly accomplish the therapy program.

To begin with, I was a little afraid of what could happen during the therapy session as the therapist pulled, bended and compressed various parts of my body. However, in the end, it was a wonderfully de-stressing treatment that left me wanting more. Although some of the areas of my body were feeling a little sore immediately after therapy due to the release of tension within the muscle tissues, these parts of my body soon lost any sore feelings and became far more comfortable than ever before.
