Sister Syd With Aunt Helen As We Celebrated Her 100th Birthday--For 3 Days!!

Building this family lensography has been a real joy.

My family is not very different from other families. Secret emotions are buried. Sadness about the past is rarely discussed. And if it is, then maybe someone gets out of hand and says or writes something filled with resentment and acrimony.

Buttons are pushed. Obsessions are harbored.

It always surprises me when these things happen. It surprises me when my own buttons are pushed.

But it happens. Let's be real.

Best not to pretend that they don't.

However, our family reunion in Bloomington Indiana this past week was a true joy and everyone had a great time.

Niece Kirsten With Son Cosmo

Research has spoken of how much sons love their mothers. Aunt Helen's son John is a great example of a pure love for his mom.

Kirsten says it's too early to say how this will test out for Cosmo but take a look at the great comradery between these two and tell me if it doesn't foretell of great things to come between these two: mother and son.

My Three Beautiful Nieces

These young women are what Sharon Eden, who was on our "Moon, Moo & You: The Collective Wisdom", describes as courageous women, always ready for honesty, always ready for adventure!

Radiant At 100

This was the day Aunt Helen received more than 50 guests, all of whom sat next to her and spoke to her, kissed her and squeezed her hand. She won the title of the Champ that day.

Move over O.H. Lowry!

This picture and the following three are taken from a collage of pics hanging up on cousin John's wall.

I managed to capture Aunt Helen and her husband Jack plus my dad in a party hat! Hi there dad! You look stunning, as always!!

Dad, Helen and Jack

Dad always tells the story of what it was like being raised in a family with 3 older sisters.

He took a lot of walks. Long walks!! Not to say that he didn't love his sisters. But I imagine that they could be somewhat bossy at times!!

Grandfather Shenk, Dad, Helen

This picture captures the fun of youth, growing up in the earlier part of the 20th century. My grandfather was a puppeteer, and played Santa Clause every Christmas. He also was a practical joker, or so the story goes.

OK, so dad's sisters don't look very bossy. In fact, they don't look bossy at all.

In fact, they look like sun worshipping Beauty Queens!
