Lemon Drop - My Favorite Drink

An early establishment that many consider the world's first fern bar, (term for upscale or preppy), not to mention the birthplace of the Lemon Drop Martini, was Henry Africa's in San Francisco, California. The bar was started in 1970 at Broadway and Polk Streets by out-of-work veteran Norman Hobday, who by his own account "took the opium-den atmosphere out of the saloons" in favor of "antique lamps and Grandma's living-room furniture."

In a shaker half way filled with ice add:

♥ One and a half shots of freezer chilled Absolut Vodka, I prefer the Citron flavored blend.
♥ One shot of fresh lemon juice
♥ Half to one teaspoon of super fine sugar;to taste

Top with a snug fitting glass and shake to dissolve the sugar. Strain and pour into your prepared glass.

Chill your martini or favorite glass in the freezer, once the Lemon Drop is ready to pour, pull the glass out of the freezer, swipe the rim with a thinly sliced piece of lemon and dip the rim into sugar. You can drape the thinly sliced lemon on the rim or toss into the glass...I like to sugar coat the lemon slice and drape it on the rim.

♥ A lightly salted rim
♥ A tablespoon or two of crushed or sliced seasonal fruit...strawberries, blueberries, cherries
♥ A few slivers of... lemon zest, orange zest or ginger
