My Favorite List of Wisdom from Practical Ben Franklin, Founding Father for Modern Living
Ranked #7,743 in Business & Work, #211,616 overall
Ben Franklin's Lightning Rod
Franklin earned the title of "The First American" for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity; as an author and spokesman in London for several colonies.
As the first United States Ambassador to France, he exemplified the emerging American nation. Franklin set the standards for the American ethos as a marriage of the practical and democratic values of thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, self-governing institutions, and opposition to authoritarianism both political and religious, with the scientific and tolerant values of the Enlightenment.
To Walter Isaacson, this makes Franklin "the most accomplished American of his age and the most influential in inventing the type of society America would become."
Family & Friends (Ben Franklin Wisdom 01)
The photos associated with each module is from my memorybook of Ben Franklin's life. My community tv show, "Our Family Origins' have produced 2 half hour CTV "talk" shows on Ben Franklin in a series "Innovation 1776" from which these B.F. photos were talken.
1.1. A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body.
1.2. Absence sharpens love, presence strengthens it.
1.3 An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
1.4 Eat to please thyself, but dress to please others.
1.5 God helps those who help themselves.
1.6 There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one's self.

- So many great quotes. I read a book I THINK called the Americanization of Ben Franklin... It sort of disillusioned me about the man, but I can ignore that to still appreciate all of his little epigrams.

Human Nature; Life & Living (Ben Franklin Wisdom 3 & 2 )
2.1 A life of leisure and a life of laziness are two things. There will be sleeping enough in the grave.
2.2 Anger is never without a reason, but seldom with a good one.
2.3 Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.
2.4 He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.
2.4 Experience is a dear teacher, but fools will learn at no other.
2.5 He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.
2.6 I wake up every morning at nine and grab for the morning paper. Then I look at the obituary page. If my name is not on it, I get up.
2.7 Gain may be temporary and uncertain; but ever while you live, expense is constant and certain: and it is easier to build two chimneys than to keep one in fuel.
2.8 If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.
Nation (Ben Franklin Wisdom 4)
4.1 Even peace may be purchased at too high a price.
4.2 The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself
4.3 Wars are not paid for in wartime, the bill comes later.
4.4 We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately
4.5 This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins.
