My Favourite Pop Celebrity - Twiggy

TWIGGY

I remember Twiggy's arrival on the celebrity scene in 1966 very well. As an impressionable young lad of just 9 years, Twiggy was a blast of fresh air and with her striking looks was a constant topic of discussion in the school playground. Twiggy was one of us, of our generation, and did away with all the old pre-conceptions of what it was to be famous.

What's more, Twiggy has stayed the course, changing her image and her attributes to match the current mood and carrying her army of existing fans - and new ones too - along. How many stars of today have been as versatile: Model, actress, singer of pop, rock and Country music, Twiggy entertained us all through her own variety television series.

By the 1990's Twiggy was a Television Presenter and Interviewer. More recently, Twiggy has become the face of Marks & Spencers and Littlewood Catalogue.

Twiggy on Wikipedia

Here's some of what Wikipedia has to say about Twiggy

Wikipedia says:
Twiggy (born Lesley Hornby; 19 September 1949) is an English model, actress, and singer, now also known by her married name of Twiggy Lawson. At 16, she became the first prominent teenage model. She was known for her androgynous looks, large eyes, long eyelashes, and thin build.

In 1966, she was named "The Face of 1966" by the Daily Express and voted British Woman of the Year.

By 1967, Twiggy had modelled in France, Japan, and the U.S., and landed on the covers of Vogue and The Tatler. Her fame had spread worldwide.

After modelling, Twiggy went on to enjoy a successful career as a screen, stage, and television actress. She has hosted her own series, Twiggy's People, in which she interviewed celebrities, and also appeared as a judge on the reality show America's Next Top Model. Her 1998 autobiography, Twiggy in Black and White, entered the bestseller lists.

Since 2005, she has modelled for Marks and Spencer, most recently to promote their recent rebranding, appearing in TV adverts and print media, alongside Myleene Klass, Erin O'Connor, Lily Cole and others.

How wonderful to see a lens on Twiggy. I remember when I was a child in the UK and my Dad and Grand dad would talk about her. Such fond memories. Thank you for sharing this lens.

The thing about Squidoo is that people write about stuff that brings up memories of things and people they thought they had forgotten about. Thanks for this memory of Twiggy!*blessed*
