Trip to Bucharest
My first time in Romania. Excited to discover this new country, in the cradle of the balkans! But unfortunately just 2 days to visit only Bucharest! All my itinerary was organized as i wanted to visit the most interesting and relevant places in this city. It started upon my arrival at the Bucharest's airport, Henry Coanda, where i took the car that i rent and booked few days before. I chose a small city one, equipped with a GPS in order to not get lost in this new country.
Bucharest City
On my way to the hotel, driving in the highway, a urban landscape passes before my eyes, with high new buildings, commercial areas with some big malls, shops and hypermarkets. There was a traffic jam at this time of the day, around 6pm, people ended their working day. Noisy city, as drivers there use a lot their car horn, they seemed to be in a big hurry, some maybe impatient to arrive home and rest after a hard working day, other to join their friends or dates for a nice drink and enjoy the warm and beautiful weather of this summer evening.
After my checking in at the hotel, I let my luggage in the room and went to the hotel desk information to ask for a nice traditional restaurant in the city. The receptionist had a fluent English and recommended the "Caru cu Bere" restaurant, situated in the old historical center of Bucharest.
Once arrived at the restaurant, i was amazed by this old architecture full of history, the welcoming and warm people and this special typical atmosphere. The Romanian food was a pure discovery,so i had to ask the waiter some recommendations and i was not disappointed! A pure delight! I had some interesting starters, most of them made with bio vegetables, and the main dish was a speciality called "Ciolan afumat", it was pork shoulder meat along with cabbage, all this with some good glasses of local red wine!
Before joining my hotel, i decided to take a walk on this beautiful old center of the city, it was not to miss! Those little paved street, old houses with their 19th century architecture...Amazing!
The day after, i decided to visit a bit more Bucharest, and i was surprised by the interesting diversity in it. The big and chic avenues and areas, such as "Kisseleff" with its luxurious villas, "Herestrau" parc surrounded by its majestic lake...and the other areas, the other face of the city, where these huge gray and poor buildings are the relic of the communist system!
But through its diversity, Bucharest is a warm and charming city, imbued of history and axed on the modernization. I simply loved it, it let you something special inside, a certain desire to come back!
On my way back to the airport, same highway, less traffic as it was earlier in the morning. Once arrived, i parked my car and went to the inchirieri masini area to let the keys. It was the same person that welcomed me at the arrival, and i had i nice chat with him. He asked me if i enjoyed my stay, and let me know that i was welcomed next time.
For a first time in a foreign country, i had a very good impression, warm people and perfect services, and most of it a beautiful city that convinced me to come back and discover more the whole country!
