It's Just An Old Table

I know that's what you're thinking right now. Looking at it, you may wonder, why in the world would you save that old thing if your house was on fire? Hopefully, when you get to the end of this lens, you'll understand why this "old table" is one of my most prized possessions.

Define A Prized Possession

A "prized possession" means something different to every person. For most people, it's family, or their pet. After you get beyond those things though, what next?

For my husband, it's his drum set, or the new HDTV he bought last summer. For my son, it would be one of his toys of course. I choose to define it differently.

After my family, or my pet, I would describe my "prized possession" as this old table from my grandmother. Only because it's one of the few things I have to remember her by. My grandmother allowed me to live very cheaply, in her basement, when I was 17, because I chose not to live with my mother and future stepfather. When I moved out of Grandma's basement, I was allowed to take everything I had been using in her basement. Everything included this antique table. It was the first table her and my grandfather had when they got married, but, because I was important to her, she allowed me to take it with me.

Yes, I do have other possessions that are probably worth more than this old table, but my grandmother has been dead since 1989, and I still miss her so much. This "old table" makes me feel like there's a little part of her that's with me all the time.

To everyone else, it's just an "old table", to me it's much more than that.

How About Turducken This Year?
How about breaking with tradition this year, and cooking a turducken, instead of a turkey this year? So what's a turducken you ask?  It's a deboned chicken, stuffed inside a mostly deboned duck, stuck inside a mostly deboned turkey. ... view lens

What Is A Waitress?
Since I've been working as a waitress for almost 10 years now, I thought I'd make a page about it.  I started working as a server because I was in school, and it was much easier to work a server schedule around school, then a retail... view lens

80's Metal Bands
I'm making this page about "Hair" Metal because it was a great part of the 80's. I've loved these bands ever since the craze started. As a matter of fact, most of my music collection is 80's "Hair" Metal bands. Yeah, they all looked and sounded alike... view lens

Renewing Our Hardwood Floor
This is going to be a lens about what my husband did to renew our hardwood floor. My husband refuses to pay anyone to do anything. He figures that he can pretty much figure out anything himself, especially when you take a close look at some of the pe... view lens
