My Grateful List

The Story Behind This Lens

A little while back I was having a really hard time coping with life. In fact, in some ways it was down right unbearable. And so, like I've been told so often to do, I opened up, reached out and shared my story.

And I was amazed at the support I recieved for it.

The advice and help came pouring through. I was incredibly happy to have it. Then someone suggested something he did. Something that helped him deal with his own mental issues and it stuck with me. And that's how this lens began.

This is my grateful list to remind me in bad times all about the good things in my life.

Things I'm Grateful For

  • 1In a time when others are losing their homes and everything they own, I have a roof over my head and food in my belly.
  • 2Although my health is not the best, it is better then many. And I live in a country where if I cannot afford something, I can still get the health and medication I need to live a happy, healthy life.
  • 3My family. I have my mother and two fathers in my life. Sure at times we didn't always see eye to eye, but we still love and have each other.
  • 4My children. Need I say more. I have 5 reasons there alone to be grateful for what I have in my life.
  • 5My husband. Having someone that loves and cares about me through all my ups and downs is a very good thing to have, and something I am grateful for.
  • 6The ability to work anywhere in the world. No matter where I would call home, because of the internet and the skills I have developed over the years I will always be able to find or even create work for myself.
  • 7The warrior forum, and Allen Says. There is nothing else like it online. It has helped me create a great many friends and networks and is responsible for the freedom I enjoy today.
  • 8The ability to string together words in logical sequences. AKA for being able to write and produce content. Something I love to do and do happily each and every day.
  • 9That I wake up each day alive and well. Too many don't have even this. I am grateful I do.
  • 10I'm grateful for the friends I have, no matter how far away they are, how many miles or countries separate us.
  • 11That I have people in my life who love and care about me.
  • 12I'm grateful that I live in a place where natural disasters are minimal. No hurricanes, no earthquakes, no tsunamis. The worst we get here are tornados and they rarely if ever reach the city.
  • 13To live in a country where being ill won't kill you in debts.
  • 14I'm grateful that there is passion in my life.
  • 15I'm grateful for my children, who force me to slow down and love and enjoy the world around me. Seeing things through their eyes helps me know that even in this messed up world, there is great beauty.
  • 16My ability to love and be loved. Life is much to hard to go through without love, and passion.
  • 17I am grateful for those who have my back against those who would do me wrong or wish me ill.
  • 18That the rising sun brings a new day.
  • 19My personal resilience. I can adapt, as well as change to help cope and deal with changes to life.
  • 20The beauty in the world around me. So many beautiful things in this world to see.

He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.

~Epictetus

More Things I'm Grateful For

As we grow as people, and as individuals, the things we are grateful for should be ever expanding. Here are some more things that I am grateful for.
  • 1My fur-babies. When I'm not feeling 100% they're always there to cuddle and kiss me better.
  • 2Being able to laugh, when inside I want to cry. Being able to bring myself from the brink of tears to rolling laughter.
  • 3Being able to capture the world around me in words and photographs. There is so much to the world that needs to be captured and documented.
  • 4To live in a country known for freedom, and living with those freedoms and luxories.
  • 5My teachers for not giving up on me when I said I had enough. For teaching me, even when most thought me unteachable.
  • 6My Angel, for entering my life exactly when I needed her to.
  • 7The beautiful planet I live upon and enjoy.
  • 8That I live a life no longer in fear.
  • 9The experiences I've survived that have made me the woman I am today.
  • 10That the music inside me, won't die with me. Each and every day I take time to express it, to share it with the world.
  • 11That I have FREEDOM of speech. See my latest baby here Shut Down Guzoo
  • 12That I have a heart full of compassion and love, willing to give voice to those unable to speak for themselves.
  • 13That my children look to me with pride and love.
  • 14My resilience in dealing with life and all it has to offer.
  • 15To simply be alive.
  • 16Learning that no one is perfect and neither am I.
  • 17For discovering that I am 100% okay with being me. And just me.
  • 18For the beautiful house we now call our home.
  • 19That I've learned it's okay to be me, no matter what being me means.
  • 20That I am coming to terms with my own illnesses and the power (or lack thereof) that they have over me.

If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going to get. ~Frank A. Clark

Gratitude is so important. I've kept a gratitude journal for years. Blessed because I love the simplicity, organization, personal nature and importance of the topic.

I am grateful the heat wave is over (for now) and that my fan (for lack of AC) kept me cool enough to sleep through (most of) the nights last week. If another wave comes, I will be sure to remind myself of your post, and create a list of things to be grateful for to distract me from the pre-mature heat flash I will be experiencing. thanks :)

And My New Goal...

This will be a forever evolving lens.

You see I have now made it a goal to add a new item to my grateful list at least once a day.

I have plenty to be grateful for. Sometimes I just need a little reminder.

What do you have that you're grateful for?

Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone.
