What is Gratitude?

Have you ever thought of how many things are out there that we take for granted and forget to be grateful about? Well, I have recently watched the documentary movie, The Secret, and I have realised how rich, prosperous and abundant I am. Life is great if and when you look at the things you have rather than the things you don't have. So, I have decided to make this Gratitude lens to remind me how much I have and how wonderful life is.

I always surprise people I meet with my answer when they ask me: "How are you?". My answer is almost always: "I'm fantastic". Some people ask me whether I am sarcastic or this is how I really feel. There is no sarcasm in my answer, I am just grateful for the simple fact that I woke up in the morning, another day on this beautiful planet we all know and love called Earth.

Gratitude & Appreciation as a Secret of Success

An excerpt from Jack Canfield's KEY to Living the Law of Attraction

"The best attitude you can possibly aspire to express year-round is one of gratitude and appreciation.

Being truly grateful for what is already present in your life will automatically and effortlessly attract more good into your life.

Make a conscious decision to appreciate and acknowledge all that you have already been blessed with. These emotions are of the highest vibrational frequency, and through the Law of Attraction they will attract even more to be thankful for.

Try to be grateful for even the difficult and challenging situations that arise in your life.

It is often through these situations, that we experience the most profound spiritual and emotional growth. You can learn to view each apparent obstacle as an opportunity to develop a new quality, strength, skill, insight or wisdom and be grateful for the lessons. Each challenge is an opportunity for growth and expansion."

Gratitude for ...

... the People in Ones Life

"The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you." John E. Southard

"Nothing purchased can come close to the renewed sense of gratitude for having family and friends." Courtland Milloy

"Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend... when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that's present - love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure - the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.." Sarah Ban Breathnach

"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new" Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am grateful for all the people I have, I have met, and I will ever meet in my life. They all teach me something. I choose to maintain relationships with the positive people I meet and I let the negative people follow their way.

Gratitude for ...

... the Universe

"When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Gratitude is an attitude that hooks us up to our source of supply. And the more grateful you are, the closer you become to your maker, to the architect of the universe, to the spiritual core of your being. It's a phenomenal lesson." Bob Proctor

"The spirit of the universe is at once creative and destructive.. it creates while it destroys and destroys while it creates, and therefore it remains to us a riddle. And we must inevitably resign ourselves to this." Albert Schweitzer

I am grateful for the sun and the moon, the stars and planets, the oceans and lakes, the mountains and planes, the trees and flowers, ... I am grateful for the Universe around me.

"You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink" G.K. Chesterton

""For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends." Ralph Waldo Emerson

"There is not a more pleasing exercise of the mind than gratitude. It is accompanied with such an inward satisfaction that the duty is sufficiently rewarded by the performance." Joseph Addison

""Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity.... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." Melodie Beattie
