Martial Arts Lenses by Chris Humphreys

What I love most about martial arts is that in many ways it is a great model for life. Your "opponent" is really there to help you. Your only true opponent is yourself. You begin wherever you are and all that matters is that you do your very best and strive to improve at least a little each day.

I write about martial arts a lot and have studied martial arts for years.

I thought it would be useful to have links to all of my martial arts lenses together in one place.

Many of my lenses concentrate on Wing Chun, however I have studied a number of different martial arts forms.

Enjoy!

My Martial Arts Background

I began studying martial arts in my 30s as a way to spend some quality time with my son. We studied Jeet Kune Do and eventually became Black Belts.

A lot of the parents at the school where we studied said I was an inspiration to them for sticking it out for the 6 1/2 years (and multiple injuries, bumps and bruises) to become a Black Belt.

My son went on to become head student at the school (Sempai), which was a very proud moment for me.

During my time at the school and after I have also studied: Wing Chun, Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, Kali Silat, Hapkido and Muay Thai.

As a kid, I always dreamed of studying martial arts, but never had the opportunity. As an adult, I'm glad I had an "Ah Ha" moment when I realized "Why not? I can DO this!"

I am not a "hard core" martial artist. However, I do have a deep respect for the art form and I see its application in every day of my life.

One final thought: notice above I did not say "when I got my Black Belt". Although I did earn a Black Belt to wear, it is important for you to understand that a Black Belt is not an object to attain--rather, it is what you become.

It is a mindset. A way of being that says "I will never give up--I will do my best no matter what".

Anybody can buy a belt to tie around their waist. The only way to become a Black Belt is to take the journey!

Now this is a really good idea to have a lensography for your collection of martial arts lenses. I wonder if you have considered doing some short quizzes on your martial arts lenses, many people like to have a little challenge to see how much they learned or already know.

Wing Chun Blog

This is a blog on Wing Chun. It has a page on the Mook Yan Jong which is the name of the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy. It also has pages on all three beginner forms.
