One of my favorite comfort foods is meatloaf! I've been making my delicious meatloaf recipe for years!

Since I was a young child growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, meatloaf has been a favorite food of mine. Meatloaf is one of those foods that I would most definitely call a COMFORT food. I learned how to make meatloaf many years ago, but have been experimenting with my meatloaf recipe ever since to come up with the very best tasting, best-ever meatloaf recipe ... ever!

I am always trying a slightly different ingredient or seasoning for my meatloaf recipe. You know, I think that is a sign of a great chef! A great chef is always experimenting with the ingredients of their favorite recipes to customize the taste for specific audiences. That's what you will find me, JaguarJulie doing on any given day; especially when I am making my meatloaf recipe! It's rather like meatloaf du jour! ;)

For our recent tailgating get-together for the Jaguars game, I hit upon a recipe that everyone loved. I served it with my eight-layer salad, another delicious recipe! Ah, there's nothing that can top a nice piece of cold meatloaf. I like mine just that way -- plain with no ketchup.

Why I like this recipe for my homemade meatloaf !

Well, everyone pretty much knows that meatloaf tastes great the next day and the next day after that. It's great cold and hot! I don't know too many meat dishes that I can say that about. Well, this particular meatloaf had a nice zesty taste and it was quite moist -- not really needing ketchup.

My delicious meatloaf recipe!

A few secret ingedients revealed here!

Ingredients:
1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1/2 lb. lean ground pork
1 large egg
2/3 cup Bertoli Olive Oil & Garlic Spaghetti Sauce
1/2 cup Vigo Italian Style Bread Crumbs With Imported Romano Cheese
1/2 large onion chopped
Ketchup
2 bacon slices -- optional
Salt and pepper
Garlic salt

Directions for making my delicious meatloaf recipe

That's the best spaghetti or pasta sauce to use!

Bertoli olive oil and garlic spaghetti sauceDirections:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Chop the onion into tiny pieces.
3. Mix ground beef and pork, egg, Bertoli tomato sauce, Vigo bread crumbs, and onion. Be sure to use your hands to totally mix!
4. Add salt, pepper, and dash of garlic salt.
5. Form into a loaf in a 10 x 5 x 2-1/2 loaf pan.
6. Optional: place the 2 bacon slices on the top of the meatloaf. And, add a bit of ketchup to the top if you like.
7. Bake uncovered, for 1-1/2 hours.
8. Let stand for 30 minutes to cool.
9. Drain juice from loaf pan.
10. Place on dish to slice.

My other recipes for meatloaf

I'll use 2-3 slices of bread soaked in milk or Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix instead of the bread crumbs.

I've substituted BBQ sauce, and tried chunky spicy salsa for a little zing, in place of the spaghetti or tomato sauce.

    Should never read a delicious looking recipe lens just before dinner. My stomach is growling! I found your tomato sauce ingredient really interesting; I've always used just Ketchup in my meatloaf(s). :)

    I once tried a meatloaf recipe that was made the usual way, divided into two parts, put one part in the meatloaf pan, add a layer of stuffing mixed with onions and mushrooms, then top with the second layer of meatloaf and cook. It's delicious, but because the 'stuffing' middle doesn't hold together well (the meatloaf slice falls apart) it isn't conducive for (neat anyway) 'cold meatloaf sandwiches' for lunch (my hubby's favorite!). :)

    Once I had meatloaf that had a few small potatoes inside ... nice surprise when sliced, and quite delicious. This lens has made me hungry ... great job!
